TRUE BLOOD: "Trouble" July 18, 2010 (open spoilers)

Pardon me if there’s already a thread but I didn’t see one.

Following up on the theory that Sam’s brother is being molested, I think there’s a supe twist: I think his father makes him transform into a woman. The father storming in was an intense scene.

Has anybody noticed or is it just me that Alcide is gucking forgeous?

Now that Eric has found the wolfmaster who killed his pa (supposedly), what do you think he’ll do? Russell is evidently many many times more powerful than he is. (I love the touch of the Renaissance era portrait of Russell & Talbot on the wall; I mention for benefit of those who aren’t southern architecture buffs that the mansion used for Russell’s home is Longwood in Natchez, one of the most famous and unusual of antebellum mansions [if it can be called that- it wasn’t quite finished when the Civil War broke out, which is why the onion dome interioris still unfinished- it’s a blessed relief from the omnipresent 4 over 4 excruciatingly symmetrical mansion that was the norm.)

In the clips from next week, did Tara have fangs?

Yeah, but I’m betting dream sequence… we already have one “baby vampire” , and I’m 98% certain even the writers wouldn’t know what to do with a super powered Tara.

I knew that mansion had to be something famous!

I, too, was wondering WHAT the stepfather’s and the brother’s deal was - I never thought of that, how icky! They’ve been dragging it out for three weeks now.

My favorite scene was Tara, dressed in that granny gown that Franklin thought was so hot, LOL, crying over her meal…a bowl of DAY LILLIES? It was hilarious and sad at the same time. (Like a vampire servant thinking, hmm, have to feed a human…they eat vegetation, don’t they?..eh, this centerpiece here will do…) Either the vampires forgot what it was like to be human or they very seldom have humans as guests for dinner. Unless the guests are the main course.

We’ve had a couple of good episodes in a row after an unusually bad one a couple weeks ago (the head twisting episode).

My two favorite parts of this one:

Jason getting out of the sheriff’s car shirtless with sunglasses on. It looked like something from some kind of ridiculous porn movie or music video.

And how about LaFayette and Jesus? LaFayette is always so composed and confident, but he was acting like a nervous school girl when Jesus showed up at Merlotte’s. We haven’t seen LaFayette in a real relationship with anyone. It would be nice to see this thing with Jess gosomewhere.

I also liked the Eric the Viking flashback, and the added wrinkle now of Eric now wanting vengence on Russell. It looks like Russell is now set up to be the Maryann of the season.

Is Crystal in the books? Can anyone familiar with the books spoil whatever her secret is (in a spoiler box, of course)?

Franklin is awesome, and the actor must be having the time of his life. Between him, Russel, and Eric we’ve got a HAM WAR of epic proportions.

On the other hand, the Wacky Adventures of The Merlotte Boys needs to end, now.

So Sampiro, you pretty much want all the True Blood men to yourself?

If I remember correctly, Charlaine Harris spent a good time in the book building up Alcide’s beauty. The actor they cast, seems really close to what I pictured Alcide from the book to look like. Same with Eric Northman. Even though I read the books after watching the first season, I never had an image for Bill though.

Also, I never got the impression that these characters were so tall. Eric is supposed to be tall, I guess, and the camera is always looking up at Alcide and looking down on Sookie when she’s with her so that would create some illusion. But all the guys seem to be at least half a foot taller than her.

Oh and Sookie from the book didn’t seem attractive at all. Anna Paquin as Sookie is smoking hot though.

I really liked this episode though. It was exciting all the way through. Bill probably blew his load too early when he came for Sookie. I’m not sure what he had to gain from it. I doubt Russell would have killed someone so valuable. So, if anything, he would have brought her back to the mansion where both Bill and Eric were staying.

The whole viking backstory was great too. Were redheads around back then though? I thought all vikings were blonde. Eric remains the coolest character in the show, even though they were constantly trying to make him look evil or something in the earlier seasons.

Sookie did that stupid trick with her hand again. Was she too helpless before? I thought that was the whole appeal of her character. Sam’s family is starting to become a bit more interesting. It was nice of him to give his brother a job.

Tara’s boyfriend is all kinds of fucked up. Even more so than Tara and her family (well maybe not THAT fucked up). Tara would make a horrible bitchy vampire. I’d be afraid.

What’s for dinner?

YOU ARE!

I liked this episode. Maybe it’s a logical progression from the first few episodes, but it felt more coherent, and everyone was fun to watch, especially Franklin.

Is Crystal some kind of wood sprite?

Love Sampiro’s idea about Tommy and his dad. But dang! That’s so wrong.

Yeah but he’s a way more interesting Maryann than Maryann ever was.

Yes Crystal is in the books. Read the next spoiler for more info. They end up getting into a long term relationship. One more spoiler box if you want some serious spoilers that might give away a future plot and some cliffhangers. So Crystal came from a small town made up exclusively of were-panthers. Unfortunately, the town is having an inbreeding problem and the were-panthers are slowly deteriorating because of it. So Crystal gets knocked up by Jason, much to the dismay of one of her male cousins who ends up kidnapping Jason and torturing him by turning into a were-panther and repeatedly scratching him with his claws. This eventually turns Jason into a lesser type of were-panther. He can shift, but when he does, he gains only some panther characteristics. Oh and their packleader plays some small parts in a few storylines. He actually wants to marry Sookie in order to add a few more branches to the were-panther family tree.

I knew Sookie was more than just a mind reader. Now that she has discovered new powers, this will get to be fun. Wonder if she will wind up being the equal of the top vamps?

Interesting stuff. Thanks. We know the show doesn’t always precisely follow the books, though, so it will be interesting to se if they tweak that storyline at all.

By the way, I never knew you could nest spoiler boxes like that. Pretty cool.

Crystal is in the books and she’s

… a were-panther. Jason becomes one too, eventually.

trOpsn4j: AFAIK human beings have hair coming in all colors, and there is no reason Vikings would ALL have been blond. (Wasn’t there an Eric the Red in history?) Red hair is caused by a gene and even the cavemen may have had red headed children (probably deemed evil spirits and killed).

There’s no Lafayette and Jesus in the books, I wonder how that’s going to turn out?

Yeah, I kind of knew that but blond is how I have always pictured vikings.

I’ll read the wiki about Eric the Red when I get to work!

In the flashback Eric seemed to be trying to bare his fangs (which of course didn’t exist yet). It was interesting seeing him vulnerable, though he is somewhat vulnerable for the Magister as well. Rusell’s comment that “He [the Magister] has no power except for what we give him” is probably going to be significant.

I’m thinking the father’s has been forcing Kid Merlotte to dogfight. Didn’t he transform into some pit-bullish looking dog? It would explain his weird ownership thing going on.

I am completely and utterly over Tara, not that I ever liked the character much, but I love that crazy nut Franklin. When he said he slaughtered the group of elderly women playing slots at the casino because “they wouldn’t give him a turn,” I had to pause it because I was laughing so hard.

Okay, last week the magister said something about Eric’s child, or some reference that made it sound like he was referring to Eric’s descendents. This week Eric expressed concern for his “progeny.”

So, is Pam Eric’s daughter/granddaughter/great-granddaughter, etc? Eww.

No, that’s just the word the vampires use for a human that they’ve turned. In vampire parlance, Jessica is Bill’s "daughter, Bill is Lorena’s “son,” and Eric was Godrick’s “son.”

That would totally make sense, explain everything perfectly and be blessedly less skeevy than Sampiro’s hypothesis. I’m guessing you’ve nailed it.

Yeah, Franklin is just as crazy as Tara but he’s an interesting crazy. Tara just seems like an annoying bitch with an attitude problem.

I also liked his comment about going dark and killing everyone around him when his girlfriends give him “the talk.”

“Where’s your badge??.. Where’s your gun??.. Where’s your SHIRT!?”

So funny! I love Jason and I cant wait to see him swaggering around in a cop uni.
