True Romance: is Clarence insane?

He’s a loner who doesn’t appear to have close relationships with anyone, including his family. He hallucinates and talks to Elvis. He has a short temper, is manipulative and extremely impulsive. He has little to no compunction with regard to murder and other illegal activities.

Is Clarence a psychopath?

Probably not literally a psychopath, given he actually does seem to love and care for Alabama. But he clearly has some psychological and emotional issues.

He also can’t keep track of white boy day.

I’m leaning towards psychopath, maybe not clinically. Still…

I haven’t seen the movie, but psychopaths do not typically hallucinate or suffer from delusions. A psychopath who claims to be hallucinating is likely under the influence of drugs/suffering from DTs (many psychopaths have substance abuse problems), or else just lying.

One could of course be a psychopath and have other mental health problems as well, but a glance at Wikipedia indicates that psychopathy is not correlated with other disorders that commonly feature hallucinations so it doesn’t seem particularly likely. Of course, movies often do not depict mental disorders very accurately.

He’s Quentin Tarantino.

So, arguably.

Definitely body dysmorphic disorder, at the least. He wasn’t sure whether he looked like a beautiful blonde with big tits and an ass that tastes like French vanilla ice cream.

No he’s not insane, not at all. More like an introverted genius, in his own way. He’s just trying to make some bucks as a foundation for him and Alabama to build their own life. The fact that he channels his inner Elvis is just his way of working things out… and he admires Elvis for the self-made man that he is.

Don’t condescend me, man!
