Trump and Americans

There was another case (Trump Soho) where his kids were caught running a scam, and they returned everyone’s money as long as they agreed not to cooperate with the Manhattan DA’s criminal case - it pissed off the DA but Trump gave him a campaign contribution to calm him down.

Why was that not obstruction of justice compounded by bribery?

Fucking sexual predator. End of story.

The OP seems only interested in a narrative about Trump’s handling of COVID. In fact, the reasons most of us “hate” Trump are considerably more numerous. I really can’t understand the bewilderment.

Because Vance made a big show of giving back the money, which came from one of Trump’s “lawyers”, not Trump himself.

Of course, he got another contribution for twice the amount once the case was safely in the rear view mirror. The DA had recently taken a beating on another high profile case, the DSK rape charge, and was gun shy about taking on a fraud case where the victims claimed there was no fraud.

Here’s a good summary of the case:

I worked a block away from the Trump Soho while it was being built. It’s not like I worked in Soho, either — the Trump Soho was in Soho in the sense that it was located south of Houston Street, much like Brooklyn and Mar-a-Largo- but it was not inside the traditional boundaries of Soho. I used to joke that every word of Trump Soho Hotel and Condominiums was a lie except Trump, it wasn’t in Soho, it wasn’t a hotel and it wasn’t a condo. It was in a horrid location in the middle of the maze of Holland Tunnel entrance ramps.

That site was a hazard and eyesore for years, a perpetual construction site that was shut down for violations way more than it was open. They discovered it had been built on top of an old African-American cemetery. A construction worker plunged to his death due to their third world safety protocols, a topic of much discussion among those of us that walked past the building daily even before the horrific death plunge. We expected it.

So many people think that the press picks on Trump, but they’ve actually been extraordinarily kind about his past. There was so much mobbed up bullshit and intimidation in his past, and the press barely mentioned it.

I’m British yeah. I’m not surprised exactly, maybe surprised that he seems almost universally hates everywhere now.
Is Trump really more ‘evil’ or self serving than Bush, or Cameron, or much more of a clown than Johnson?

If he kept the same politics but knew when to shut his mouth and had the PR skills of some of his predecessors would he be so hated?

Trump is evil, way more evil than Bush, differently evil from Cheney.
Trump is a wanna-be Mussolini like Bolsonaro of Brazil.
He is a very shady businessman.

He wouldn’t be Trump if he knew when to keep his mouth close or twitter feed quiet. But he is a very different type of President. He is who Huey Long would have been if he slimed his way up to the Presidency instead of being killed.

He is like Jackson in some ways but without the courage or toughness.

What gets me is while people are dying, most presidents would speak every day, professing their sympathy, telling everyone we’ll get through this, at least trying to raise spirits. No. Just golfing. Truly sociopathic.

He is, quite possibly, the most self-centered person who’s held a major public office in our lifetimes (certainly the most self-centered one who’s held a major U.S. public office). Every decision he makes is clearly based on what he believes is the answer to the question of “what is in it for me, Donald J. Trump?”

At a certain level, even if you disagreed with GW Bush’s policies, or Cameron’s policies, you had the feeling that they were trying to do what was best for their nations. Trump has no such motivations – he’s solely motivated by receiving praise from his supporters, continuing his own self-enrichment, and shielding himself from the courts.

How about, just for starters, the numerous instances where he insisted on having his security detail be put up, on the government dime, in expensive rooms at his own properties?

Then there was the diversion of PPE and testing kits that were already ordered and on their way to hard-hit places like NYC and Boston, so that he could make sure they were delivered to states that had supported him. Shippers had taken to disguising their freight in order to smuggle the stuff past his goon squad.

It is just an unbelievable morass of stupid, venal and narcissistic. It is the kind of behavior that allowed him to plow through the Republican primary debates, against opponents who debated almost like adults. He gets his way by shouting at people – which is to say, by being impolitic. Not even Boris is that bad.

I love America. Trump hurt America.

Let’s not forget telling states that they need to procure supplies on their own, followed by the Feds outbidding those same states. When FEMA did open stockpiles, red state Florida received three times the amount of supplies that they requested and blue state Oregon received supplies well past their expiration date.

It’s not his politics (although they are bad from my perspective), it’s his immorality, his corruptness, his incompetence, and his obnoxiousness. The “bad politics” are just why he gets so much GOP support.

Hulk hate Trump!

Trump wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that but damn that’s apt. He was a populist who abused power and survived an impeachment. He crapped all over the constitution and conducted himself like a dictator.

Trump was born 11 years after Long died, maybe he was reincarnated?

If that was the case, then it was a reincarnation that didn’t take. Trump doesn’t have a tenth of the political skills that Long had.

Also, I ran across a Nov 2017 Smithsonian magazine the cover of which was “The Coming Pandemic?” A few months later, Individual-ONE decided to disband the federal task force watching out for global health emergencies. Presumably to save fifty cents on the budget. So the US pandemic response was hog-tied right out of the gate. This situation could have been so much less bad, and it is his fault that it exploded out of control.

He seemed to care more about alarming the stock market.

The Trump genes dragged down the Long spirit.

I always thought Trump was a clown and I couldn’t believe we was elected, so I used to snicker at his stupidity and incompetence. But it stopped being funny soon thereafter. The absolute low point for me was after Charlottesville. That we had actual white supremacists and Nazis marching in the US, and killing a counterprotester, and the President refusing to condemn them–then, Fox news-watching people defending Trump–I could not believe what had happened to my country.

I’m not saying he’s a racist–the racists say he’s a racist.

His Covid response has been feckless and incompetent, and I can’t see how it could have been worse. If Hillary Clinton had been elected, I’m sure we would have had a pandemic, and it wouldn’t shock me that the government would have made mistakes, but I think we would be more in line with other countries, say 100,000 deaths. I’m sure Republicans in congress would be calling for investigations every day about how her response was so much worse than Benghazi and 9/11, though.
