Trump and Harris agree to September 10th ABC debate - Watch Along Starts at Post 431

Thank you. I am glad to see posters brave enough to challenge the dominant narrative here.

Harris is not a conviction politician like Margaret Thatcher (privatization), or Bernie Sanders (socialism), or maybe even Donald Trump (nativism). There is no one big idea she is in politics to achieve. She presented real proposals last night, but her presidency will not depend on them, and, in any event, such proposals would not come out of Congress the way they went in.

I’m comfortable with this. Harris is a competent leader who will preside over a cabinet of distinguished experts. I suppose this sounds horribly elitist to many others and do not condemn those who look at it another way.

Baiting Trump last night was risky. If DJT had been able to hide his real self for ninety minutes, it would have backfired. But the Trump she brought out in the open is the real one. He’s the dangerous irresponsible self-centered anti-NATO isolationist that his four star generals and foreign policy advisors faced for four years. The danger would be greater next time because Trump is learning to hire toadies. It was in the national interest to let voters see the real Trump.

And his moist upper lip, which by the end of the program was actually the drippage from his runny nose.

A pretty safe bet that he would and could not, though.

That sounds like the kind of person this country needs in the top position.

Did he seem less orange as the night went on?

Picture of angry Trump storming off stage in commercial break:

Trump got a lot of “False” ratings- like 9 counting “misleadings”

Harris only got a “Misleading”, a “needs context”. an “inconclusive”. No False ratings. Pretty good for a career politician.

Well, when virtually everything the former president said is a preposterous lie…

Here’s an analysis of the debate, it’s an AP article, just not on AP’s web site.

To summarize, by every objective measure it was bad for Trump and good for Harris. That’s not just wishful thinking or left wing bias.

Yeah, that is the problem with fact checking articles is that they usually pick the 4-5 most controversial statements from each candidate and then fact check those, which misses the fact that Trump basically lied every single sentence, while Harris said a few things that were not quite right.

This one sounds like right-wing buzzword bingo bullshit, but somewhat amusingly, it’s probably closer to the truth than most of what came out of his mouth. On a questionnaire from the ACLU in 2019, Harris wrote “it is important that transgender individuals who rely on the state for care receive the treatment they need,” and “transition treatment is a medical necessity.”

Obviously his statement lacks needed context, and the “illegal aliens” is his own fabrication.

And – some of his supporters are farmers and other business owners trying to hire workers.

Some of those, of course, will say ‘ours are the good ones, he means those other guys’ – but Trump’s threatening to deport them all and not let in replacements.

The idea that poor old Donnie is the only one spouting blatant lies isn’t one that they’re going to admit to.

Some of them were the same ones repeated.

Nice typo!

And a couple of major cities burned down, though apparently that didn’t make the news.

Yeah, there were a couple of things she didn’t answer for which I think the reason was that there was no way to answer them that wouldn’t have produced a clip that could have been so used when taken out of context.

I think she was being very careful to avoid a “deplorables” moment.

A lot of people do think they’re worse off than they were under Trump, for instance. Some of them are wrong, and some of them are confusing the beginning of Trump’s term with the end of it, and some of them due to individual circumstances are right. But Harris can’t say they’re better off than they were, or they’ll be furious. And she can’t, obviously, say people aren’t better off. And if she gives a detailed proper explanation of why people think that when the economy’s roaring – way too many people will either never see/hear, or never pay attention to, the whole thing. So she ducked the question – but she pretty much had to.

That was beautifully done; and I’m not entirely sure that it wasn’t planned.

“You know and I know that he deserves to be called [worst expletive of the viewer’s imagination] but I have such good self-control that I’m not going to do it!”

Her job in that debate was to win that debate.

And Trump is not in any real sense a Republican. I expect Harris can tell the difference.

How about his lies about immigrants eating cats, burning down Milwaulkee, and massively raising USA crime rates?

Anybody have a link not on x or facebook?

I recall there was a fact check that Harris did not meet with Putin before the invasion, as Trump claimed.

Link goes to a replay of the entire debate under the headline “Our new ad just dropped”

Nevermind

Sorry, it was going to his rally with people leaving early.

Ah. Thanks for info.

I think it was mentioned that Trump is claiming that he “won” the debate and “all the polls show it”. Of course they don’t, but here’s an interesting “poll”, wherein the stock price of DJT (“Truth Social”) is a proxy for Trump’s likely future. Note the stock performance the morning after the debate.

He said no need to fear it being mentioned. It was a plus.
