Trump and Harris agree to September 10th ABC debate - Watch Along Starts at Post 431

With respect to the earrings theory, I remember some members of this Board going crazy over the suggestion that Dubya was being prompted in one of his debates with Gore, based on wrinkles in the back of Dubya’s suit jacket.

That’s not quite accurate. I don’t think anyone (at least in the mainstream media) was saying that the only reason Dubya did so well was because he was being fed the answers, because he didn’t actually do particularly well. The speculation was all about what that rectangular object was behind his suit jacket, and whether it might have been some sort of communication device. We still don’t know, but I’d be willing to bet that it was just an odd effect of lighting and wrinkles.

I wasn’t speaking about MSM, I was speaking about posters on these boards. There was a lot of speculation that he was being fed answers.

Just saying that it’s not just Trumpers who may go down that rabbit hole.

So you admit that Harris did have an advantage over Trump!

…but did you notice that, right after that, he started pronouncing it correctly? She subtly shamed him into being slightly less awful.

Sure, but he also wasn’t being fed his usual feed of, “You’re so wonderful, Mr. Trump, you’re so awesome, you can insult her all you like, and nothing will happen” crapola that he so often gets from his handlers, advisors, and fans.

With no handlers or advisors or fans in the studio, he realized this was serious and somehow, figured out that if he was to have any traction at all, he’d better start referring to her by her proper name, with the correct pronunciation.

Except we were talking about former RNC Chair Reince Priebus. He went with the mispronunciation (probably to suck up to Trump), but was shamed in real time to quit that foolishness.

ISWYDT

I guessed it was a battery pack. Feeding not information to his brain, but simply voltage to keep it running.

I didn’t break your lawn mower. It was broken when I borrowed it. It was in perfect condition when I returned it. I never borrowed it in the first place.”

“What’s a lawnmower? Never heard of it.”

In legal terms, it’s called pleading in the alternative.

It may work in civil cases, but I’ve heard from criminal lawyers that it doesn’t work in criminal cases, at least not in front of a jury; defence should pick one general defence theme and stick to that.

Moderating Again

No, because I didn’t watch all this live, I watched it later on DVR, so I didn’t see any further discussion with him. That particular segment ended with her remark and cut away. So if it worked, I’m happier.

I just posted what I uncovered about the source of the “Haitians eating pets” lie in the Is Trump Confused? thread.

I don’t want to crosspost too much, so I’ll just drop this link to a Guardian article I found.

Basically, it involves a parody news site story that distorted an actual incident of animal cruelty by a non-Haitian Black woman (in Canton, not Springfield), then getting picked up by a neo-NAZI group, and circulated in right wing circles.

Heard on NPR “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me” today:

“They’re eating the dogs”.

“The first racist dog whistle that actually involves dogs”.

/dead

Well, at least they’re showing some concern for pets now after the earlier “cat lady” comments.

”It was hard to watch,” Putin reportedly said. “But she was right about me eating him for lunch. That was a good one.”

WRT foreign policy, the talking points don’t even make coherent sense.

World leaders feared trump, but also they are his friends but also they want Kamala to win.

And Kamala won’t have what it takes to stand up to world leaders and do the things that need to be done…which, according to republicans is pretty much nothing, as they want a hands off approach for Ukraine, gaza and sure as hell over things like climate change.
Yeah we really need a strongman to…fck around a golf course doing nothing.

I disagree. I think it is true, even clear.

There are many world leaders. Wise Western ones feared the gutting of international institutions and trade agreements depending on the daily mood of one individual. Wiser ones prefer less volatile and mercurial governments. And favour and flattery would seem a reasonable strategy for dealing with Trump even if it may be misinterpreted as other F words, like friendship.

Unless you are talking about very specific leader.
