In the other thread, I said that clip scared me. Trump looked to be seething with anger and indignation for having to do this. The anger and rage jumped from the screen.

Mr. Trump was very carefully reading from a teleprompter. What he was told to say. I did not hear any emotion or get any sense of sincerity.
I think that if Mr. Trump tries to drag Bill Clinton’s activities into the debate, Hillary should say: “Hi!, I’m Hillary Clinton, and I am running for President.”

He is a good enough actor to have appeared sincere if he’d wanted to. He didn’t want to and it was probably smart strategy not to appear sincere. No one was going to believe he was actually contrite no matter what he did. But by at least mouthing an apology he gave those who wanted to forgive him some way to do so. At the same time, if he’d appeared actually apologetic, he would have been marked down by those of his supporters who like him precisely because he is an unflinching alpha ape who never backs down and is never sorry.
