Trump as Speaker of the House...need not even win an election

I agree. Being indicted or even in jail would not stop him from running and might not stop the party from nominating him.

Possibly… Have to give that one some thought.

Depending on the specific crimes, the Insurrection Clause of the 14th Amendment could come into play, but the exact details of how that works remain untested. There has been a case where someone convicted of participating in the January 6 insurrection had disqualification from office included as part of the sentence, which is the closest thing we have to a clear and current precedent.

I saw an interesting suggestion (on Electoral-vote) that the Dems plus a handful of Rs (however many they need to get to 218) could elect the Cherokee delegate to Congress as Speaker.

I’m sure many of you are thinking “What Cherokee delegate?” OK, there is no Cherokee delegate right now, But there is a provision in a treaty with the Chrerokee Nation that they get a non-voting delegate if Congress approves. Lately the Cherokees have been pushing to get that approval and have even nominated someone. Getting her elected Speaker would be a backdoor way of getting that approval.

If the hamberders and KFC haven’t done him in yet, I have to assume he will never die. Or else he is already dead and is a ringwraith…

Any potential VP nominee (by Biden or Harris, depending) could be given the Garland treatment.

Could he stay on as Speaker while running for Prez?

It seems Trump is not waiting for indictments. My guess is he wants to start this early so if indictments do come he can call them a witch hunt. Also get some juicy early fund raising money to pocket.

Everybody in this thread is way behind on the news cycle. It’s not going to be Trump.

Who then? Tulsi Gabbard.

What Matt Gaetz said he’d rather do than support McCarthy (washingtonpress.com)

Gaetz floated several names he’d rather see in the position, including recent DINO Tulsi Gabbard, perhaps one of the least popular people in the country. That would be a hard sell, of course, as her entire appeal would be that she would be a thumb of the nose at Democrats.

Matt Gaetz suggests Tulsi Gabbard as a possible Republican Speaker of the House, adding “there are definitely at least five people, actually a lot more than that, who would rather be waterboarded by Liz Cheney than vote for Kevin McCarthy” pic.twitter.com/LxRaecOJVC

The Florida rep also suggested several people who are not currently members of Congress, even saying that they should consider “dusting off” Newt Gingrich.

Tell me that even an extremely dusty Newt Gingrich wouldn’t make more sense as a Speaker than Trump.

Gabbard? Really? 10 of the 13 candidates she endorsed lost. And, it seems, she just got a job at Fox News as a contributor.

I’d be surprised if she wanted the speaker position. Fox probably pays better and is a lot easier.

An Onion Ringwraith, maybe.

Way too fancy for MickeyDee.
