Trump Candidacy Hypothetical

For the Republicans: If Donald Trump ends up as the Republican candidate for President, will you vote for him no matter who the Democratic candidate is, or is there a viable Democrat running that you would be willing to hold your nose and vote for over The Donald?

I’d seriously consider any Dem that isn’t Hillary over Donald Trump. If it comes down to the two of them, I’ll go third party or write myself in.

I’d vote for Donald over a socialist like Sanders anyday, but I’d vote Clinton over anyone else.

Lots of Hillary hatred in the world.
That said, if Trump was nominated by the Democrats, I’d take a third party option. That would be intended to signal to the Dems, “If you want my vote, nominate a qualified candidate”. As it is, I’d say about 3-4 of the Republicans in the car are qualified. Back in 1980 all made the cut: this isn’t a high bar.

I don’t know what happened here, but the question involves Trump being nominated by the Republicans. I would like to get reactions from them if possible.

Looking at the entire field:
Webb - My early preference for President from either Party. Give me him on the general election and all the recently deceased from my county might vote for him… twice
Clinton - A good chunk of the current Republican crop falls behind her not just Trump.
O’Malley - He’ll do and he’s not Trump.
Sanders - Now we’re close to or in nose pinching territory. He’s not Trump though.
Chaffee - This feels like being forced to choose between putting Buster, the Mythbusters test dummy, and Trump in the Oval Office. Still likely a not Trump vote.

I will gladly vote for the Democratic Nominee for President. No matter who he or she is.

Of course, I’m told that my vote in Red Texas “won’t count.” But I was proud to vote for Gore in 2000 & not piss my vote down a Green commode. Despite the Electoral College & Crooked Florida & The Supremes, my vote was numbered among The r
Righteous.

I would be especially glad to vote against Trump. Even more against the monstrous Ted Cruz, who has no chance of being nominated.

Aren’t there any Republicans here that would vote for Trump in my hypothetical?

Do you seriously think Hillary is going to succeed in taking your guns away, or even trying?

I’d be surprised if there are many, if any, here.

His poll numbers look strong but he also has high disapproval rates. You either are with him or you are against him it seems. His numbers in one poll I saw skewed towards high school graduates. They also skew towards the self identified more moderate to liberal side of the party and Republican leaning independents. Those voters tend to have lower participation early and vote less in primaries (where they actually have to do more than just answer the phone and talk to the pollster.) Effectively those are people less engaged early.

There aren’t all that many Republicans here to begin with. Less politically engaged at this point and less educated doesn’t sound like a demographic group heavily represented at the Dope to me, either. Dope Republicans tend to skew towards the ones that feed the high disapproval rates. It’s not quite a snipe hunt but… I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Starving Artist seems rather enamored with him, although I’ll leave it to SA to confirm that.

ABC

But Trump, hell of a choice.

We may have a snipe IIRC from his thread. He’s likely at least in the “not actively disliking” camp as a Republican.

I can’t imagine a Dem seating me to vote against Trump. I don’t know who I’ll vote for in the primary, as there hasn’t been much substance yet. But I will say that he is a breath of fresh air. I love how he fucks up the game that both the politicians and the media have instituted. And I really think that is a very healthy think for EVERYONE. I feel the same way about Sanders as a candidate. I admire both him and the way he’s handling his candidacy.

I watches Fox News Sunday this morning and was tickled how freaking panicked Rove is about the prospect of a Trump presidency, or even him getting more power to tell the establishment to go fuck themselves.

Anybody but Cruz?

Anybody but Carson?

Anybody but Christie?

Anybody but Carly?

I repeat: Trump is NOT going to be the GOP nomination. There is zero chance of that.

But if you really want me to play that game, I’d find some third party candidate to vote for if he were the GOP nominee (which he won’t be).

I assume Rove is more upsdet about a Trump nomination (slim chance) than a Trump presidency (zero chance)

It’s amazing what can bring us together – Trump makes me very, very happy as well. I’d be tempted to donate money to him if he needed it. I haven’t enjoyed anything political this much since the 2012 election.

Go Trump!
