And then three of them actually met with the defense team to discuss strategy.
Jesus Christ.

Republicans: “It’s a trail! No due process!”
Also Republicans: “It’s not a trial! So we can confer with the defense team, even though we swore an oath to be impartial jurors!”
How can anyone be a Republican and not feel ashamed about what happened in Congress today?
This could be an interesting twist:
Interesting, indeed. What about all the congress-critters who had given guided tours of the Capitol to the Proud Boys and their ilk?
Yeah, if Trump had hired Saul Goodman to represent him, his defense would have had more class than it did today.
This is really a very sad time for Republicans, and a sad time for America, but I doubt that very many right-wing troglodytes are capable of seeing it, especially if their brains as well as their TVs are permanently tuned to Fox News or worse. It’s not so much that Team Trump were lying their asses off, it’s that so many Republican senators are obviously predisposed to acquit no matter what, despite the extremely egregious malfeasance of an obviously unhinged orange shit-gibbon. It’s almost like watching a very very long SNL sketch. Unbelievable.
I hate to say this, but probably quite easily, sadly.
There are murmurs that one of the lawyers wanted to resign on Thursday but was convinced to stay on.
The defence side was very trumpy yesterday, the newer lawyer was very trumpy. Demanding to know which senator asked a question, disparaging the house managers.
On to today.
It may have already been addressed up-thread but I don’t feel like going through more than 100 posts to find out but what is the down side to the managers to calling witnesses? I guess they risk witnesses flat out refusing to testify but what else?
I think the downside is just lengthening the trial for an unknown amount of time when the outcome is not in doubt.
There is no dilemma. The only question the politicians have is “What do I have to do to remain in office?” There are no morals or principles involved. Granted, there are a (very) few Rs willing to vote to convict Trump, perhaps acting against their own interests and I tip my hat to them. But the vast majority are addicted to the perks of holding office and will do whatever it takes to feed the addiction. Just like the heroin addict who robs his own mother for the next fix. Actually, I have more sympathy for him but we throw him in jail while holding elected official in high esteem. Resign? No fucking way would that ever happen.
Van der been is as close to Giuliani as trump could get. That was a true trump/Giuliani performance.
I’ll call hundreds to phillydelphia to depositions. No zoom for me.
I want to see witnesses. I don’t care if Van Der Veer subpoenas Cory Booker, Hillary Clinton, Harriet Tubman and the goddamned Mormon Tabernacle Choir. That’s his problem.
Witnesses!
And to me, this is one big reason impeachment is important. We have to show politicians that we’re onto the ploy of “will nobody rid me of this troublesome priest?”
It’s Trump’s signature move. Spout a lot of bullshit, get people riled up, nudge them vaguely in the right direction, praise their actions, and respond to accountability with “I was just joking around”.
We have to make the point that all “jokes” will be investigated and all “nudges” will be held accountable. When you’re talking about people’s life and safety, if you’re a leader of government, you’d fucking well better speak with concern, sobriety, and a bias to action.
Looks to me like witnesses are gonna be called. Hold on to your hats!
There may have to be a fair number of prosecution witnesses appearing via Zoom from various correctional facilities.
WITNESSES! WE’RE GONNA HAVE WITNESSES!
Yes. Goddammit, this is a complete fucking sentence, @discobot
Hi! To find out what I can do, say @discobot display help
.
If they’re gonna call witnesses, pull the fucking pin and call Trump. Send him a big fat subpoena. Do it! DO IT!!!
