Yeah, I’ve got relations like that. It’s because everyone in their news and social bubbles repeat those messages over and over. It’s a cult of lies.

They were not just in the bank. They held the door for the robbers, assisted with stuffing the money bag, and put gas in the getaway car.
Then they sit on the jury and swear an oath to be impartial. The robber has threatened their careers, and they themselves have strategy meetings with the defense team. While serving on the jury.
My cousin Vinny could have defended him
Pretty much like my uncle, who’s a Vietnam vet.
He was also an unapologetic nationalist and generally had a low regard for democrats, blaming the liberal democrats for pulling out of Nam before we had a chance to bring the fight to the enemy and all that stuff. Even so, he was fairly reasonable and tolerant of opposing viewpoints until around 2008 when a black guy with a funny name became president and “Killary” tried to become the first woman president 8 years later.
He’ll deny until he’s blue in the face that he’s not sexist or semi-racist. “I liked Sarah Palin and I liked Herman Cain – I’m not racist!!! It’s you lib snowflakes who are the real sexists and racists!!!”
It wouldn’t have mattered if DJT himself showed up and testified: “Yes I tried to get the mob to murder Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi, I know damn well I lost the election fair and square but I tried to subvert democracy and get re-elected so that I can avoid prison. And I expect every single Republican to vote to acquit because if you don’t, I will endorse your opponent in the primary and you will lose.” Like the obedient sheep that they are, they would have ended up with about the same vote.
Idiot fucking bastards who giggle to themselves that they’re “Winning!” after having just lost the White House and Senate.
I can’t even do that. Fortunately, COVID gives me a good excuse. Politics is nearly inevitable, as pretty much my whole family is pretty RW, and they will discuss these issues with or without me. I’m forced to either just stay quiet and not object to their misinformation and outright lies, or speak up, and then I’m the one that’s being disruptive.
For quite some time, my tactic was simply to leave anytime politics came up, and that kinda worked, but I’m not sure what I should do in a situation like my mother and sister discussing something, certainly within earshot and intended for me to overhear, but I’m not actually part of the discussion.
They are trolls, and they want to troll the libruls, even if the librul in question is their son/brother.
It’s gotten worse, but I also remember rants during the Clinton years, I have vividly etched in my memory my mother screaming that the Clintons had Vince Foster killed. But, in a more recent discussion, she claimed that BLM had no reason to be rioting, as only 10 black men were killed by police last year. (Obviously, that sentence is problematic in many ways, no need to unpack it.)
I dunno that I miss them that much. As I straight up told my dad once, if we weren’t family, I seriously doubt that we’d be friends.
Meanwhile…
Senator Ron Johnson (Idiot - Wis.) is casting doubt on whether there really was an “armed insurrection” on January 6th:
One of my last acts on FB was unfriending an idiot who was blithering about BLM and then posting daily bulletins from his local sheriff’s office – always black suspects of course. Even though there were plenty of white ones on their home page, it was always black suspects who were the only ones worthy of appearing on his wall with comments like “getto (sic) thug!” underneath.
These were basically good people, workin’ class white folk. Hell they coulda been applyin for internships for all we know!
Ron Johnson is quickly ascending to the top of the all-time shittiest people in the history of this republic, with Lindsay Graham not too far behind and Cocaine Mitch not too far ahead.
In the same interview, he falls back on the Republican talking point of drawing parallels between Jan 6 and the BLM protests of the summer. Because if a Democrat failed to denounce violence in any protest ever (even though, they all did) they therefore would be hypocritical to object to an armed seditious attack on the Capitol, the election, the Constitution and democracy itself.
Fuck the whole lot. They can’t go the way of the Whigs fast enough.
Was Julius Caesar really assassinated? I mean when you hear ‘assassination’ don’t you think of firearms? Did Brutus even own a gun?
Brian Williams got off a good one in response to Johnson’s remarks:
Was Julius Caesar really assassinated? I mean when you hear ‘assassination’ don’t you think of firearms? Did Brutus even own a gun?
Cain slew Abel with an Uzi.
Well, it is the Chosen weapon of the Chosen people.
Good one!
As someone who recently lost a lot of weight, and is still wearing his old clothes, I would like to know what the QAnon shaman was using to hold up his pants.
Gorilla glue?
Post-Impeachment DJT has suffered yet another legal setback:
Like Scientific American, in the issue just before the Presidential election Analog magazine’s editor endorsed Biden over Trump citing the latter’s anti-science stance. It was far from the first political editorial nor was it even the first endorsement – John W. Campbell (in)famously endorsed George Wallace back in 1968, mainly in protest of the two-party system rather than any enthusiasm about the latter’s platform.
Predictably, in the March/April issue I received today are several letters sent in October and November saying politics is none of the magazine’s business, objecting to the editor calling them deplorable (he didn’t), and decrying the sudden socialist screed. A common theme was, “I have been a reader for X decades but this I cannot stand. Cancel my subscription forthwith.”
These would have been written in October and early November, long before the two month whine about a “stolen” election, never mind the events of January 6th and the subsequent second impeachment. I can’t help but wonder how many of them realize now that they’d been duped by the country’s greatest conman.
