There ya go.
So will the audience Trump was addressing.
I’ve got a lot less confidence in that than you do.
It doesn’t have to be that blatant. Just preventing enough of the “wrong” people from voting will do it.
And how would having a civil war at that point – after he and his users have done four years’ worth of damage, and gotten their tentacles much further into ways of controlling the armed forces – be any worse than having one in 2024?
And if the threat of a civil war is supposed to be enough to get him elected in 2024, why wouldn’t it be enough to get him to stay in office in '28?
The next president can’t restore lives of the dead. Or undo four years of massive environmental damage.
I very much doubt it. I think there will be isolated incidents. And we have isolated incidents now, and have been having them pretty much since the country got started.
But, again, if that’s what you think would happen – why don’t you think it would also be an equal or even greater threat in 2028, if/when Trump declares he’s staying in office? Are you going to be saying then that we must give him (or if he’s dead whover took over) a third term or there’ll be riots? And so on, forever?
Starting with Judge Fangirl down in Florida, no doubt.
Whether he wins or loses, he’ll still have his brainwashed army. If he wins, he’ll have his brainwashed army and at least some fraction of the government institutions.
You’re literally arguing that we need to put Trump in power to keep him out of power. That’s not how this works. That’s not how anything works.
Nah. We’ll skip the mass arrests and incarcerations. Just easier to grease them en masse and shovel them into a mass grave. I mean, even their dentists probably won’t be able to identify their remains. (Assuming they have dentists – do people with less teeth than fingers really need dentists.)
They got off easy on January 6. Not going to happen again.
The notion might be slightly more palatable if he would name his successor ahead of time. Does he think he’s going to live forever? He won’t, despite what Ronnie Johnson says. I can’t wait until this election is over, and he can just fume in his jail cell until he croaks.
Given their sentiment seems best embodied by this famous bit of agitprop,
So, as we set out this year to defeat the divisive forces that would take freedom away, I want to say those fighting words for everyone within the sound of my voice to hear and to heed ‘From my cold, dead hands’!
The correct answer to that is, of course, ‘As you wish.’
In context, if stated by a person, instead of trump, I would have taken it to mean that if you are the type of christian that doesn’t vote, just do it this one time, after which I will prove my ways so I will be voted in again overwhelmingly and you can resume your pattern of not wanting to vote as it won’t matter. As opposed to yes I need your help to win so I can become king forever and take away your rights to vote.
@dolphinboy This is the problem with your argument in a nutshell. If we elect TFG in 2024 to avoid an entirely hypothetical coordinated civil war by his base, what happens in 2028 when you are now so worried about another hypothetical coordinated civil war from his base unless he’s either allowed a third term or his anointed… I mean appointed successor isn’t allowed to win? Only this time he’s had another 4 years to undermine democratic institutions from within.
As he admitted that he is not a christian himself (cite → the video in question) I guess that makes him a ChINO, a Christian In Name Only.
And yes, I hope it is an unfortunate acronym in his ears.
He has taken over the republican party. He won’t be able to take over christianity.
…if he admits he’s not one, then isn’t that the opposite of “in name”?
Like, I’m not an Army veteran; I’m mentioning that now; I wanted to make it clear, and so I said so. Do I now have to worry that someone will nod knowingly and say I’m an Army veteran in name only?
I disagree.
Have you seen the Christians wearing their Trump garb? They have crosses and statements prominently shown. And spewing the most vile filth and lies out of their trump-holes. And profess to be Christian? I’m not sure that’s what Jesus taught.
They must have missed the Sunday school class that day, about being god-fearing, don’t practice Idolatry, don’t hate, turn your other cheek.
Oh hell, they haven’t darkened a church door in years.
But no! They go (reasonably) faithfully to the churches where the preacher thunders denunciations against all the folks they hate and despise.
trump doesnt have many such supporting him. He has Right wing evangelicals, who have abandoned the words of Jesus in their hate and bigotry.
Remember- about half the US Christians voted for Biden, not trump. trump does not have the general support of christians- he has the support of a significant vocal minority of them.
So generalized attacks on all Christians is a very poor idea. It is NOT Christians- it is that subset of them.
I wondered about that line myself. Does he say “I am no Christian”, or “I am a Christian”?
If it’s the former, that’s the craziest thing he has ever said. It’s true, but it’s idiotic to say it out loud.
The significant majority of white Christians support Trump.
Trump draws support from:
- 81% of White evangelical Protestant voters
- 61% of White Catholics
- 57% of White Protestants who are not evangelical
Yes this is months old, but the numbers haven’t changed much. White Christianity is effectively Trumpism.
That’s mostly driven by whiteness, not by Christianity. Self-identified non-Christians are uncommon enough in this country that there can’t be significant differences in trends between Christians and the country as a whole (or between white Christians and whites in the country as a whole, etc.).
Except if Trump is elected, that will be his second term. He seems to be implicitly stating he will violate the 22nd amendment and hang around after that.
Wait, hol up, you’re not suggesting Trump would say something stupid out loud are ya?
