I was being a bit hyperbolic there. I also should have excluded people that are genuinely financially illiterate. Not just irresponsible, but illiterate).
I don’t think Donald Trump would have any exclusive rights to his own mugshot. I’d like to see someone else start selling them and give the profits to fight climate change, or something like that.
Or if true, that’s 4 million that is not going to other Republicans, and just goes in Trumps pocket.
Not me (I’m short on quatloos), but I’m sure that the judge at the arraignment will take that picture into consideration when setting conditions for release on his own recognizance.
As I understand it, some internet rando made that image using publicly available shots. Did Trump reTwuth it or otherwise endorse?
Trump once faced off against Jack Morris, back in the 1990s. The first two pitches were strikes. Then one came right down the middle. He hit, and it went up the middle for a base hit. But Trump stepped on his extra-long tie, and tripped and couldn’t get to first base on time. “Rigged, rigged,” he shouted. “Democrats rig this game. It’s Biden’s fault!”
[End of fiction and sarcasm.]
No Donnie, it’s your fault. You are your own worst enemy. You want to win? Then shut the f**k up!
Which seems to be correct - my bad. Trump’s camp is claiming the photo came from the nationalfile.com article that he retweeted, but there seems no evidence of that.
The BBC has an analysis of online reactions on the right and left to Trump’s indictment. No surprises to me.
There are still dozens of sealed indictments in DC which resulted from the Mueller investigation. Indications at the time were that all or most of them referred to Then-President Trump. I am expecting those to come raining down on him at some point, along with the Florida Documents and Georgia Elections cases.
Interesting coincidence that the same day Trump
Is arrested, in Wisconsin the balance of power will shift* just enough that, if 2024 comes down to yet another very close presidential race in a few states, and Trump is the barely-losing candidate, justice would prevail.
*as long as Judge Janet is elected tomorrow — let’s hope so!
I cannot see any judge but the most predisposed partisan hack putting up with a defendant selling t-shirts with their own official mug shot and a caption like “hoax” that insults and tries to discredit the entire process. How is that anything but textbook contempt? If the judge is halfway competent, there will be a pre-emptive order to the effect of “this is a serious institution, I run a serious court, and I will not hesitate to slap you with a finding of contempt at the merest hint of dismissiveness or mockery, whether inside the courtroom or out.”
It was from the article he posted. Just like if we posted that article here those same pictures would show up in the preview. He’s saying he didn’t have anything to do with it, it’s just the pictures the they used and the way they were laid out.
To be fair, it sounds plausible, but this is about the extent of my knowledge of the subject. For all I know he arranged for them the pictures to be there so he could make the tweet. In any case, the fact that it’s a preview of a linked article does suggest he didn’t orchestrate this.
Not a lawyer so I don’t know a lot about such things- suppose before the trial in NY, Donald also gets indicted by Fulton County and also by the DOJ. There would be three trials pending in three jurisdictions. Who gets to go first? Suppose NY says the trial starts July 1 and Fulton County says oh no, our trial starts July 1 and DOJ says oh no, our trial starts July 1. How would that get resolved? And once done, suppose there are three sentences of incarceration- who gets to lock him up first?
Can a judge order someone not to mock them outside of the courtroom? Would that be a freedom of speech issue? Thinking back to a similar issue, could Alex Jones have been ordered not to use his show as a platform to call the judge a dwarf goblin?
Now, that’s not to say it’s not going to hurt their case by turning the judge and/or jury against them, but can they be legally prevented from saying it?
I understand his argument. I’d feel more confident if the original article he tweeted could be dug up to prove it. I can’t find it, can you? nationalfile.com was the source.
Two quick questions -
Rumor is there are ~30 ‘counts’ or charges. Are these things ever grouped together. Say in the case of it being the same crime on a different day. So deliberate on a group of charges all at once. This is going to take forever.
Also, does Trump need to remain in the courtroom during the trial? Or only when they ask him to testify. I wonder how available he has to be.
Nice! Thanks
There’s an old saw supposedly about Abraham Lincoln. He was on his way to court and made himself a list of things to do in his opening. One of them was “Insult the judge.”
When asked about it he claimed that the judge was a scrupulously fair man. By insulting him, Lincoln could assure that the judge would be more likely to decide any procedural questions in his favor, because he wouldn’t want to seem biased by the insult.
I don’t actually think that’s a good idea, but it was a popular story in the 70’s.
