Trump is going to be our next President. I feel sick.

How will they pass legislation to repeal ACA without 60 Republican senators?

The “business as usual” that we’re apparently tired of is the business of recognizing women, blacks, Hispanics, and Muslims as people. Intolerance of those groups is literally the only thing in Trump’s platform. All the bad things you expected to get from Clinton, we’re sure to get from Trump, too. Except now we have a whole bunch of other bad stuff, too.

Lock up some Dem Senators and have a quorum call.

Clothahump and his cronies are so much of what is the problem. According to him “the American people sent a clear message”. More than half of them didn’t vote for Trump. But you know what? They don’t think we’re the “real” America. They think, not only don’t we count, hell, we shouldn’t count because heaven know they have to work as hard as we possibly can to make sure those people don’t vote. Yes, I think Clothahump and everybody saying what he’s saying is a bad person. I think he really is pro-business and very, very anti “those” people.

And just exactly what people am I supposed to be anti?

I just love it when liberals think they know everything about me. I pointed out something to you: a clear message was sent because we are sick and tired of liberal elitist bullshit. And suddenly, I’m the problem? Good grief - you liberals really do live in a utopian dream with no concept of reality.

Which is an interesting switcheroo on the more traditionally American “Fuck you, got mine”. Now it’s “Got none, fuck y’alls”. I’d laugh if I wasn’t scared of a nuclear exchange down the line…

It looks like Hillary is going to win the popular vote though. So for the second time in 16 years the Republicans control the country despite getting fewer votes. So how exactly is that a clear message?

You’re like the people who paid up for Trump University. Trump is a pure conman. He played you. You think he’s going to help small businesses? Seriously?

Politics as usual. Oh my aching head.

Consider it a passive-aggressive revolution. A warning shot.

Do you really think most Trump voters don’t know that? There’s a line saying that Trump vote was a protest vote; they’re not voting for Trump because he’s Trump, he could have been Kodos or Kang and still got their vote. Not one Trump voter I know is voting for Trump because he’s Trump. The American Dream, the American system, has failed a great many people and they have just expressed their discontent. And you should listen.

Someone should find Berke Breathed and get him somewhere safe.

  1. Why do you believe that lots more people are suddenly going to want to learn martial arts during a Trump administration?

  2. You are aware of Trump’s record of stiffing small businesses that were unfortunate enough to enter into contracts with him, right?

Serious question: what exactly do you think the Dems haven’t done for you that the Reps would?

We gave people health care. Sure, it wasn’t perfect, but it gave tens of millions coverage for the first time, so they don’t have to automatically worry about bankruptcy when they get sick. If you were one of those people who already had it and service was disrupted or ended, do you think that you should have kept it over millions who can’t even go to the doctor?

We gave you gay marriage, and along with it the dignity and respect that is backed by law that your orientation isn’t one to be feared or mocked but stand alongside straight people as equals. We defend your right to join in our economy by trying to make sure businesses can’t fire you for what you are.

As for jobs, sorry but the same manufacturing jobs aren’t coming back. Do you think that an economy from 50 years ago is sustainable when other countries are staring to go through their industrial periods? Do you want us to bomb them back to pre-industrial ages?

What selfish elites are you talking about? Surely not a real estate billionaire who in the past refused to rent to black people like you? Or someone who bankrupted companies only to take his money, not pay taxes, and saddle investors and tax payers like you with the bill? Where is this notion that Democrats are the selfish elite and a guy like Trump isn’t?

I personally feel like a character in a Harry Turtledove novel. What would an crazy alternative world be like if Trump had won in 2016, instead of Clinton like she did in the real timeline?

Blame the Democratic party then, as leaked emails revealed, she was their anointed choice.

I voted for Bernie in the primary. Ok it was mostly intended as a vote against Clinton, but I did my part. I didn’t vote to put Trump or Clinton on the ballot.

Your “clear message” that you claimed for “Americans” - your"clear message" doesn’t even represent half the country. You basically say you’re sick and tired of “liberal elistist bullshit” - well, hell, I’ve been sick and tired of your pseudo “we conservatives are the only real Americans” or “I’m a small businessman - of course the only thing that counts is what’s good for me and fuck y’all”.

I have never lived in a “utopian dream” - I live in America where a good number of “small businessman” are just as crass, venal and disgusting as any liberal elite - and actively work to screw over their employees (a fair portion of the workplace rant thread is dedicated to them). I’ve worked for small and large businesses and know their owners are no better than mere wage slaves. I have seen nothing you’ve said to show me that you are any better than the worst of them, and seen a lot to show how anti-“some” people you are (from your contributions all over this board). I am 55 years old. I remember the stand-alone doctor in my grandmother’s tiny town in east Texas that still practiced segregation in the 70’s (she took me to have stitches removed - we had to sit in the “colored” section and wait under the doctor had time after his white patients - and there wasn’t another doctor in 50 miles). I remember a job I had with Baylor College of Medicine working for the head of oncology in the 80’s explaining to some racist bitch with cancer that no, “Montague” wasn’t a colored name but I could go ask Dr. Lane if he was colored. And I did. And to my delight, he cussed her out. I’ve dealt with unrepentant racists and sexists and assholes my whole goddamn life. And yes, you are part of the problem when you don’t give a good goddamn how bad a significant portion of the country is treated as long as your business prospers. It says so much that you seem to think that a push for a little bit of equity is somehow “elitist”. You don’t care that you and your deplorables do or say bad things - you still think you’re better than us but oh no, that’s not “elitist”. Feh.

Up and down my street I see citizens out on their front porches projectile vomiting. (I’m serious).

As of a few minutes ago:

Trump: 59,358,535
Clinton: 59,592,805

If that is your idea of a clear message, the only “clear” message is that you do not know how to count.

Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen.” - Albert Einstein
(We can probably ignore that, of course, since it came from a scientist and mathematician, and Clothy fears and distrusts such people.)

OP, are you me? Because I feel exactly the same way, including feeling sick about the result.

What the hell do you think is gonna happen to the Supreme Court now? If you think you’re left behind now, wait until you don’t have the “selfish elites” to protect your ass.

And if you say otherwise, our President-elect will sue you.

In what universe did that happen? Yes, there was a drop. But it wasn’t a thousand points and the market has regained.

Wow - feeling the love here, BPC. I fully expect to live well and rub your face in it on a regular basis.
