The Smithsonian Board of Regents is headed by Chief Justice Roberts and VP Vance. The next six are appointed by the Republican Pro Tem of the Seanate and the Republican Speaker of the House. The next nine are selected by a vote of the above 8 regents. What do you think?
I’d say it’s practically a done deal. ![]()
He needs a place for his library.
While part of the motivation of this move it to fight anything that resembles diverse viewpoints, I think a lot of it comes from his feeling rejected by the old money patrons of the arts, who recognized him as a boorish ignoramus. He’s probably mostly doing it out of spite.
are you sure about that?
Those numbers are pretty close to the The Kennedy Center 2023 Financial Report. The 2024 report has not yet been published but there is no reason to expect large differences from the prior year.

I suspect the uncertainty lies in the last sentence.
Here is a list of events which have been cancelled so far: it is generally the artists who made the decision to cancel and not the Center. The exceptions were:
A Peacock Among Pigeons’
A National Symphony Orchestra concert described as a “celebration of love, diversity, and the vibrant spirit of the LGBTQ+ community” that was scheduled to take place during World Pride 2025, has been removed from the website. John Bucchino — the composer of the show’s titular choral piece — was informed Thursday that the show was “postponed” indefinitely. It’s unclear why the event was taken off the Kennedy Center’s schedule.
‘Finn’
The children’s musical, about a young shark who realizes he relates more to smaller fish than his shark counterparts, was canceled and removed from the center’s website this week. Commissioned by the Kennedy Center, its creators said that “while not a surprise given the events of the last week, it is a heartbreak” to learn of the show’s end. A Kennedy Center spokesman said the cancellation was due to financial constraints and that the production was axed before the change in leadership.
Whoever sews up the tutus is going to get a big order from the new principal ballerina.
Two Canadian artists cancel their appearances at Kennedy.
In the Truth Social post announcing his intentions to take over the storied arts institution, Trump had promised to make the center “GREAT AGAIN,” adding, “The Kennedy Center is an American Jewel, and must reflect the brightest STARS on its stage from all across our Nation.” …
In the week following Trump’s announcement, ticket sales dropped by roughly 50 percent compared to the previous week, a stunning aberration, according to several Kennedy Center staff members who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of reprisal.

Perhaps Elon and Donald could buy up these unsold tickets and donate them to the culturally deprived?
Its cheaper to do what he does with his crowd size and just lie.
“They are selling tickets like no one has ever seen, they sell out instantly and there are lines a mile long waiting for no shows.”
Maybe they could use the cardboard cutouts that filled out the seating for Conan during the pandemic. Or just a bunch of faceless department store dummies with laff trak fill.

Meanwhile, they cancelled the Washington Gay Men’s Chorus because they are homophobic a holes.
Trump is Chair of the Kennedy Center?! Talk about pearls before swine!
Teach me to read the Dope before putting on my glasses. I read the OP as, “Trump is Made Chair of the Kentucky Derby.”
Though the way things are going, I’m sure he’d like that. “I’m in charge, so make sure my horse wins, okay? I don’t care how, just do it.” As a horseplayer, I have no doubt that if Trump got involved in horse racing, it would be rigged such that his cheap $5000 claimer who does a 4f workout in 54.3 would win a $2M stakes.
“Nice horse you got. Be a shame if someone mistook it for a deer, in deer season.”
I’d like to see acts cancel current bookings at the Kennedy Center, and instead perform elsewhere in the Washington DC area, where they attract record crowds. When Kid Rock or Ted Nugent attracts a far smaller audience at the Kennedy Center than the Washington Gay Mens’ Chorus does at the Capital One Arena, Trump will claim Kid/Ted had better attendance. But sometimes, there’s no hiding the truth—photographers, stand by for each.
Serious answer - I’m not sure what or who would stop him.

“We have to do the big productions that the masses and the public want to see, we want to have really good programming,” he said. “So the first thing that we’re doing … you’ve got to be at the Kennedy Center in December, because we are doing a big, huge celebration of the birth of Christ at Christmas. How crazy is it to think that we’re going to celebrate Christ at Christmas with a big traditional production to celebrate what we are all celebrating in the world during Christmastime, which is the birth of Christ.”
What?? Celebrate the Birth of Christ?? Why hasn’t this been done before? Why did no one ever think of this? OMG! It will be yuge! Elon, get busy and think up some merchandising-- decorations, songs, clothing, costumes-- it will be the biggest thing the world has ever seen! Now, can we just get this “Christ” person to come to the White House? I want to introduce him with a great big kickoff party!
