I like to find out what’s what first.
Okay, what’s what is that, politically, based on polling, this appears to be a vulnerability for Trump, so Democrats should capitalize and attack.
No, and nor should they. Waiting around to win by default is not the way.
Dems should indeed be hammering on this topic; it doesn’t matter that it’s objectively not the most important thing, politics requires putting the boot in when a weakness has been found, always has done.
I think the old guard are worried about names like Clinton coming out, but a) they should think about the bigger picture b) if someone’s a pedo, to hell with them
Ghislaine has new accommodations. I wonder why she might have been moved to a nicer prison at this particular point in time?
I see a list released by her…with the Trump name redacted, of course.
For Maxwell to face perjury charges she would have to, you know, commit perjury in a jurisdiction that would prosecute her. I think we can rule out the federal system. So, who is left? I just don’t see case where she would by lying under oath in a state court.
What if she’s sued for defamation? That’s generally handled by state courts.
I don’t think you can sue someone for defamation based on statements made in a court of law. This would have a chilling effect as witnesses may be unwilling to testify knowing whatever they say might result in being sued.
Correct.
An absolute privilege is also a complete defense to a defamation claim. Among other examples, this includes statements made by witnesses during a judicial proceedings.
I don’t see Trump showing that kind of restraint. If he’s offering Maxwell a deal to get her to accuse people he’s mad at, he’s going to want it to be public accusations. He’ll have Maxwell going on talk shows and doing interviews.
She won’t be able to go on talk shows until she’s pardoned, and once pardoned she’ll have little incentive to lie on Trump’s behalf. I think it’s likely if pardoned she’ll crawl away and avoid the light of the sun. It’s an interesting situation for Maxwell and Trump given both parties need something from the other but they can’t really trust one another. Trump can offer her a pardon at a later date if she lies now, but is there any guarantee he’ll keep any promises? Maxwell could very well receive a promise from Trump, but then she’s free to say pretty much anything she wants.
She has US, French and British citizenship. I assume that once pardoned, she’ll get out of the US. I don’t know if she still has money, or if it was lost in lawsuits.
I rather think the family isn’t short of a bob or two.
Liz Dye (via Legal Eagle) made the comment that she still has lots of money.
In fact, this entire video is worth watching as it covers a lot of the stuff that’s complicating this whole situation for her and Trump. Trump needs her to make some statements for which she’s asking for full immunity on. If she doesn’t get full immunity, she’s not going to say anything at all. The problem is, without full immunity, those statements, which will likely be falsified, at least in part, will be held against her as her own cases work their way through the legal system. OTOH, Liz seems confident, at least she seems more confident than me, that even Trump/GOP doesn’t want ‘pardoned a well known sex trafficker’ to cause him more political problems than this whole thing already has.
Also worth noting, she mentions that the Right is already laying the groundwork to suggest that she’s actually just another one of his victims.
I suspect that Trump will pardon her for her “cooperation” and then “deport” her for being a criminal. She’ll be on a beach sipping a daiquiri in no time. His base will not care.
JMHO 1) Trump won the popular vote 49 % to 47 in an election which democrats and campaign couldn’t have played worse so after 7 months the regular Trump break it and hope leadership my feeling is that Trump has lost most of the middle that pushed him over the top. Add in the effects of the tariffs and the rise in product cost to consumers that hasn’t hit shore but will cost him even more of the Center voters for sure. Not counting the MAGA base that sees Trump in a saintly glow regardless what he says or has done they can’t be swayed But what’s left of the voting public has watched as the President has twist and turned to the point of saying he barely new that couple ! While history shows them jet setting for more than a decade! Throw in an unheard of Maxwell interview with Deputy AG Todd Blanche “ How convenient Trumps attorney “ Days later she is moved to a good as it gets prison ? This special treatment will appall many and it will show up in midterms. I also wouldn’t be surprised if SCOTUS rules in favor ofMaxwells double jeopardy appeal ….We’re come a long way from “ I did not inhale that marijuaua “and a stain on a dress!
A book deal is in her future! Unfortunately a favorable it will have fictional Trump narrative. Maxwell could rock the lid off Trump and others world but wisely choose self preservation !
Question: how many floors in her new prison? And do the windows of the top floor open?
To get to the bottom of it, simply put her under oath. Then she has to tell the truth. /s
And if she doesn’t, Susan Collins will be concerned about it.
