His sense of honor and integrity.
Dammit, we now have a sarcasm thingy. Use it.
Have you priced chicken wings lately?
I don’t even want to think what a nachos supreme costs…
You REALLY think I “misspelled” his name THAT badly because I can’t spell his name?
You are so adorable…
On the other hand, whatever point you were trying to make landed on your head.
Add to that, the story had already been retracted when you spewed forth.
Nonsense.
Trust me. I grew up in the Old South. Hell I’ve even got some ancestors who wore the gray uniform. There is no mistake about what that symbol means, despite the “Heritage, not hate” tripe.
You guys keep telling yourself that…
Look up “caper”…it’s not that fucking complicated.
There’s dancing or jumping about joyfully. There’s a pickled flower bud. There’s a planned activity.
I don’t see anything about protesting and offending the easily offended right wing snowflake.
Disagree. I grew up in Oklahoma in the 60’s\70’s. You were as likely to see one in some kids window as you were an ecology flag. To a lot of people it was just a stupid way of saying 'I’m different! I’m a Reb! The store was out of Soviet flags!"
You think the producers of Dukes of Hazzard had it on the General Lee as a fuck you to Blacks?? Don’t forget the smartest guy on the show was the Black sherriff from the county over who had no time for the white foolishness next door.
Note: I’m not defending it just saying I was alive then too.
Oh, I’m not disagreeing with you at all about what that symbol means. I’m just saying that there are some people, particularly in the rural North, who are sufficiently clueless and/or dumb about the history of the symbol to think it means something else.
This is how you get some white vets being genuinely taken aback that black high schoolers would be offended by the display of the Confederate flag. To some (not very bright or well-informed) people, it’s sort of like being called a traitor for displaying a British flag. Just as nowadays an American showing or wearing the Union Jack probably implies no more than a fondness for Masterpiece Theater or the Royal Family’s outfits instead of treason to the Revolutionary cause,* these people think that displaying the Confederate flag means basically that you’re a gun-toting non-PC antigovernment maverick type, not that you are symbolically advocating the enslavement and oppression of black people.
I don’t agree with their interpretation, and it’s only historical ignorance and/or stupidity that allows them to find that interpretation credible, but for some people that genuinely is how they interpret it.
*Yes, since this is the Straight Dope it should probably be pointed out that the modern UK flag design was not the flag of Great Britain during the American Revolution, so no colonial Tories were actually flying the Union Jack.
Found this on Facebook this morning.
Things that did not offend Mike Pence and cause him to leave early:
- Claiming you can grab a woman’s genitals and kiss them because you’re a celebrity.
- Publicly mocking a woman for her alleged plastic surgery.
- Firing an FBI Director because he would not pledge loyalty.
- Calling all immigrants rapists.
- Attacking a gold star family.
- Stating you like soldiers who don’t get captured to mock an honored war hero.
- Banning people from entering the country based on their religion.
- Mocking a journalist with a disability.
- Banning soldiers because of their gender identity even though the pentagon released a study that it would have no impact on readiness.
- Not rebuking a known KKK leader and white nationalist group who chanted “Jews will not replace us.”
- Attacking the mayor of a city suffering from a natural disaster.
- Knowing your National Security Advisor has been on the payroll of another country during the transition.
Things that will offend Mike Pence and cause him to leave early:
- Having a woman who is not your [del]mother[/del] wife show up to dinner.
Sheriff murdered, crops burned, stores looted, people stampeded, and cattle raped.
This…
And those fucking Nazis are “…fine people…” but the players must be controlled. All this said by a draft dodging con man.
Who somehow became president - which means he represents the government when he spews this shit.
So Okra, yeah you’re a fucking moron.
But my point and my question still stand… which is more disrespectful to the country, the flag, the troops, the veterans, and Mom’s apple pie?
I wonder how many millions of dollars it cost the tax payers to stage Pence’s little stunt.
When Pence chose to leave the football game was it during the anthem, or did he have the pretend decency to wait until it ended? I genuinely don’t know. Also, did he have a stage prop tear roll down his cheek?
The figure going around Facebook (so, you know, take with much salt) is $250,000, not counting the cost of clearing the airspace during his little jaunt.
Both Pence and Kaepernick have the right to protest, but Colin’s protest hasn’t cost the taxpayer a dime.
And the irony of it is, an honest to God military veteran opined to Kaepernick that kneeling was more respectful than just remaining seated, which is what he was doing before to little or no controversy.
Modern America:
The flag = The Troops
The Troops = White Troops
National symbols represent the military.
Veterans have a superior tier of citizenship that overrides any non-military concerns.
Commercial event = mandatory display of appreciation for the military.
