From the beginning of his run for office Trump reminded me of Mussolini, ranting, making faces, posturing to the crowds, espousing nationalism, etc. The below linked article is from 2017 but is certainly still worth a look.
I work in an office full of Trumpers and their “But look at the stock market! The economy is booming” reminds me of “At least Mussolini made the trains run on time.” rationalization.
We were just having a discussion the other day and one particularly avid Trump fan asked “What has gotten worse since he came into office?” I answered, “Well, there is record unemployment. The stock market took a huge hit. The economy isn’t so hot”. He replied that its all because of Covid 19 and the whole virus thing is a liberal hoax aimed at getting Trump out. His stance is to open everything and only the strong survive. Also, all those confederate statues are part of our history should should be left alone. Pro-law enforcement but unable to see the problem with defiance of congressional subpoenas. Pro-military but dismisses the respected generals who criticize Trump. Every former administration official who speaks ill of Trump is a political hack. In other words, a stereotypical Trumper
I could use some concise points to counter his “Everything is better argument” (outside covid). Stats would be helpful. I know its pointless but to shut him up for a few minutes would be great.
