I think Bernie and Elizabeth say a lot of it. But for the angry white man, Bernie is a Northeasterner with a Brooklyn accent. Globalization has hurt the manufacturing worker hard. I think Trump is talking directly to them when he says we’re going to save coal jobs. (which we know is lying, pandering BS)
Populism works. Protectionism sells----or at least taking companies who take jobs overseas to task. I really think Bernie et al is speaking the right things—but it often sounds global or macro. It often sounds like he’s not talking directly to them.
Trump (and I hate that man) spoke directly to industry specific, group specific people. All of the Trump supporters that I’ve spoken to felt he was was taking up for the common man.
I have come to believe that global corporations are as powerful as a group as any nation. They’re not evil. They’re simply self interested. We have the best Congress money can buy.
I think the message is good. But make it personal. Stop talking about the 1%. Start talking about what we can do for them. And because of the way the Electoral college works, a vote in Tulsa is weighted more then Chicago. Steve Bannon (another man I hate) was right when he said he loves the democrats harping about social justice and class politics. He was right about that. (and wrong about everything else)
