No I get it. The issue is the appropriateness of the president suggesting physical violence to members of the free press. The issue of a news organization possibly erroneously mislabeling a GIF or a short video is completely and wholly irrelevant to the issue. And I’m honestly surprised you are trying to muddy the waters with it.
Tom and Jerry is slapstick. The violence is supposed to be funny. This clip doesn’t work that way. The humor in the original was just that Trump of all people came in.
Switching it to CNN is less about humor, and more what you guys like to call “virtue signaling.” In the subreddit he is a part of, you are supposed to show your devotion to Trump and hatred of news.
It only works as humor if you’re laughing at how stupid it is. But Trump tweeted it about himself. And we know he wasn’t doing it to poke fun at himself.
From a guy who has argued that the press is the enemy of America, a video of him attacking the press isn’t funny. Because it’s what he really wishes he could do.
I suggest you explain this to **k9bfriender **then. Because if you laugh at it, you favor animal cruelty or something.
But I did laugh at how stupid it is. Because it’s stupid, and funny to see the CNN logo as a head.
So what? That makes it even funnier.
Yeah, he is saying “Look at me clotheslining CNN! I can’t wait to abolish Freedom of the Press!”
Let me know when that happens. Probably after the wall is built, and coal comes back.
Everyone is getting all lawyerly and tech-heady about the GIF or video or GIF made from a video and who made it and is he an Eagle Scout. Does anyone here think Trump knows how to copy and paste into a tweet? When he tweets a follow-up to a lame-ass tweet, and another follow-up to that, ad nauseum, he doesn’t know how to respond to himself to create a thread one could easily follow. If one were masochistic enough.
Someone (Priebus? Jared? Sweet Ivanka?) is handling the heavy lifting for him because outrage and misdirection are part of the WH plan. Maybe the only plan they have, but an effective one.
The problem with CNN is that, maybe before 2000, they were a real news-gathering organization. They long ago ceased to be that and became part of the infotainment operation that plagues nearly all MSM. They’re being set up because they’re an easy target. They play for ratings, which means gathering hard facts and reporting just the facts, m’am isn’t their angle. They’re out for ratings, which means that in the end, money means more to CNN than facts…especially now that there’s a merger at stake. CNN will probably continue its long, slow descent into nothingness.
Everything in this thread makes Scott Adams more impressive by the hour. We all live in our own reality. Truth is unimportant to our existence. I get the feeling had Hillary Clinton tweeted a gif of someone manhandling a Fox logo not a fuck would be given by those currently condemning it. Those saying the gif is harmless would be finding a way to condemn it. We are generally interpreting this story the way our political leanings require. Is this coincidence? Probably not.
CNN is one big news-break away from being the dominant news source for the world.
There is a lot of truth in this – “reality” is how we individually and collectively interpret our own experiences. Each of us experiences different things, and we experience things differently. Moreover, we differ in the kinds of experiences we’re willing to subject ourselves to. Of course sometimes, we have experiences that are not by choice.
I was asked about the evidence and I answered with what I knew.
I am under the impression that people who enjoy watching depictions of people fighting animals or with each other are people who watch such shows. I never found family guy to be all that entertaining. I would make nu judgment as to the character of those who do, except that they find it amusing to watch depictions of violence.
If it was just out there on the internets, then it would just be stupid and crass. The fact that Trump promoted it changes it a bit, changes the context. If you were having a fight with your wife, and you tweeted a gif of peter punching lois, with your wife’s head superimposed on her shoulders, do you think your wife would find that amusing, or do you think that she may have reason to think that you wish her ill will?
I interpreted your post as defending Trump for making the post. If you’re laughing about how big an idiot he is for doing it, then I don’t have a problem with that. Same if you just mean you find the video itself amusingly stupid.
Though I do think you should understand why it’s not funny to many of us, because having a President who thinks like this is scary. Especially if he ever gets an excuse to declare martial law.
And having citizens who seem to support the President in this is kinda scary, too.
Ah the “The hypothetical other side would have done the same thing, therefore the actual other side are hypocrites” argument. Always a good one. Just look how well it worked in the recent incident in which a performance of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar used a Trumpian Caesar and his supporters had a shitfit and then insisted that Obama supporters would have done the same thing if it had been Obama as Caesar (even though they didn’t when it actually happened).
If Clinton had tweeted a gif of “someone” “manhandling” a Fox logo I would have found it immature and tacky. And if Clinton as President had tweeted a gif of her personally punching a FoxNews logo, I would have found it as deeply disturbing as I find Trump doing it to CNN. Because I expect the President of United States to operate with a much higher level of maturity and decorum than your average Greater Internet Fuckwad.
Yes, I find the video stupid, and funny. And I am not “defending” him or whatever, he can tweet out whatever he wants. Still a funny video.
I do understand why you think it’s not funny. I just don’t agree. Martial Law? Get real. Now you sound like those nutters who said “Obama gonna declare martial law and take all of our guns!!! derp derp derp!”
I agree that this is, in fact, scary.
I’m sure the fact that Trump has ill will toward CNN and other news organization is not a surprise to anyone. So what? Like I said, let me know when something REAL happens, other than a stupid video of Trump clotheslining CNN.
Be outraged over some real stuff, not this.
