I don’t think what you opine is unreasonable, but I do think it’s a lot less fun than scandals are.
While not legally admitting guilt, Trump paid out $25 million to settle Trump University lawsuits. Probably chump change compared to the money his construction companies will be making in the upcoming infrastructure spending boom.
Oh, there’s going to be a great deal of malice too. He’s a notoriously thin-skinned, bad tempered and vengeful man who is guaranteed to use his power to stomp on all sorts of people for various reasons out of sheer spite. It’s the way he’s always behaved after all; he just now has a lot more power to hurt people with and essentially no restraint on his actions.
And he also is surrounding himself and putting into positions of authority people who are all about malice; from his Vice President who wants to “cure” homosexuals with torture on down.
There’s also the question of whether his inevitable sexual assaults on women will count as merely scandals.
Certainly not a scandal- not yet, anyway, give it time- but Pence attended a showing of Hamilton on Friday night. He was booed by the audience. Afterwards, the cast addressed him directly: “We, sir — we — are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights. We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us.”
Trump, predictably, took exception to this. Over Twitter:
And then, of course, he demanded an apology:
So Trump calling for safe spaces? Isn’t that the sort of thing for which people are making fun of college students?
And why is he using Twitter? He really needs to start acting presidential and that does not include sending tweets.
It does now.
Eh. Obama is a tweeter, and set the president. Presidents have been using the latest communication tools for some time. I don’t see anything unpresidential about tweeting. It’s the content that determines that, not the medium.
You’re correct that it’s the content that’s the difference. Here is the Twitter account for President Obama while here is Donald Trump’s account. Obama’s official POTUS account (which will be handed over to Trump on January 20) advances his agenda and makes nice, inoffensive statements about things like Veterans’ Day. Trump uses his account to respond to slights and perceived insults. That’s the bit that’s undignified.
Remember Bush and “free speech zones”? The Republicans only object to “safe spaces” for other people. They think they should be allowed to shout insults and threats at anyone they please without any reaction from their targets harsher than quiet submission, but totally freak out at even the slightest contradiction or criticism from anyone else.
Donald “Twitter Temper Tantrum” Trump really fits in with them.
Did Trump already break the law he, the media and the right wing spent the last 2 years complaining Hillary broke? He is using insecure communications for government communications (talking to people on his private phone).
He’s not government yet.
So when he does it on January 21st can we start pushing for his prosecution?
I doubt that he will be using a private phone once he takes office. Obama was famously a Blackberry user before he was president but they took away his Blackberry. I think they replaced it with a secure phone provided by Lockheed Martin.
You are expecting far too much from him.
According to TPM, Trump used the occasion of a congratulatory conversation with Argentine President Macri to ask Macri to clear up some permit issues he’s been having with a proposed building in Buenos Aires. Draining the swamp indeed.
I saw a FB post saying Trump is going to use his terrific secret plan to destroy ISIS once he’s first taken care of the casts of Hamilton and SNL.
You know, the threats to his ego, not the country or its citizenry.
There’s time to deal with uppity stage actors as his Generals To Be Named Later haven’t come up with the secret plan he had back in March(or whenever).
Can someone familiar with Argentina comment?
Would have been embarrassing to have had the report confirmed. But it certainly sounds as if it would have been in character.
Yeah. He’s already trying to use the office of President to further his business deals.
