I don’t think he did himself any favors by his statement on the scandal:
It is a bit much to claim youthful indiscretion when you are 33 years old.
The other thing about him is that he is from the political Bush family, nephew to George H.W. Bush and first cousin to George W. and Jeb. He’s also a cousin of fellow NBC News correspondent Jenna Bush Hager.
I think it is highly unlikely we will see him on Today on Monday, and I think there is a good chance he’ll be out permanently. If and when he shows up, it will have to be with a detaled and well-crafted mea culpa.
That’s why I’m not buying any of the Trump defenders saying “He’s different now.” No he isn’t. He was 60 years old when he made those comments. You don’t change from that.
Bricker, I expect that the Today show will try to save him. After all, they effectively traded for him, which means they saw some significant advantage to having him on the show. And, sadly, despite the fact that there is considerable outrage and kerfluffle going on today, by Monday it may well be totally subsumed underneath something that comes out of the debate tomorrow night.
And, of course, there IS the fact that the controversy probably will drive viewership UP, not down.
I’d hope that a leaked private conversation over 10 years ago wouldn’t cost Bush his current job.
The person that should be found and fired is whoever kept this outtake and leaked it now.
Why was an out take with a young and relatively unknown reporter and a media personality/businessman kept all these years? This was a hatchet job on Trump and Bush is getting hit too.
The content on the out take is vulgar and disgusting. Typical locker room banter that every guy has heard since junior high. Most of it is stupid boasting and one–upmanship. Machismo at its worst. It’s not intended for a wide audience.
To be fair, I suspect some of the banter in women’s locker rooms is pretty shocking and eyebrow raising too.
Dirty and raunchy talk is not uncommon in this world. That’s why it’s considered private.
As I pointed out in another thread, Bush’s and Trump’s conversation was not private, though. They were both wearing mikes and their mikes were live and could be picked up by the camera crew. Both of them should have been on guard about making any comments that could come back to haunt them. Whoever leaked those tapes aren’t to blame. Bush and Trump were to blame for making indiscreet comments when they should have been aware that they could be picked up. Unfortunately, Trump is incapable of being discreet.
There is nothing typical about these remarks. Stop trying to pretend that there are.
Funny, but I’ve never heard anyone brag about vagina grabs or being unable to keep themselves from kissing a pretty woman before. I guess my junior high school (and high school, college, military service, jobs) were different.
You must have lead a very sheltered life then.
This stuff is tame compared to conversations among guys that I heard in school. Most of it complete bs and boasting.
Get some women together and their conversation will be just as raunchy.
That’s what being human is. We’re all flawed and occasionally vulgar and immature.
Once again, you’re more concerned with the career prospects of misogynists than you are for their potential victims. Lovely. You never fail to disappoint.
(paraphrased from my post in this thread): I’m about Bush’s age and I’ve spent a lot of time in locker rooms, and I’ve almost never heard shit like that in them. “I’d jump her bones,” or explicit descriptions of your own sexual activity, sure, but nothing like what Trump said. For example, the statement “I would jump her bones” is conditional - the 'would" implies “if the situation were favorable and she were so inclined as well.” That’s a substantive difference from Trump’s words.
Here’s Trump: “You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. … Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.” Trump’s comments completely disregard the agency of the women he’s talking about. “I don’t even wait” to gauge her interest or not, and if “they let you do it,” then you’re home free, regardless of how they feel about it. Someone who talks this way about other people is a failure as a human being.
I totally agree Trump was out of line
A complete male pig.
At the time he was not involved in politics. He didn’t have the self awareness to censor every word he said.
Cite?
In exact terms I’d agree they’re not typical, but in terms of crassness, vulgarity and so-called misogyny (i.e., sexual banter about the desirability/physical attributes of certain women and/or one’s success with them) they’re exceedingly typical of the things I’ve been hearing guys say since I was in my early teens.
Upon what basis do you make this presumption?
If all Trump had said was that she was hot and that he tried to get into her pants, it would be no big deal. That Trump cheats on his wives is not exactly news. You seem to be ignoring the part about grabbing her pussy. Which, as I’ve said, he did not do to her but did to others. Against their consent.
You do understand consent, don’t you?
Sorry, bub, not even close. Over half a century, the overwhelming majority of it supporting myself. So sorry, but no.
But hey, spout some more about how it’s commonly acceptable behavior. I’m sure everyone will buy it.
Who are you voting for again?
I’m voting for Bill’s wife. The guy that diddles women with cigars.
Trump is toast now.
Hopefully Billy Bush can keep his job. He’s collateral damage in this political attack.
He wasn’t in politics, but 11 years ago he had been a very public figure for at least 15 years or longer. He should have had self-awareness long before then.
No. No, it isn’t. I have never, ever been part of a female-only conversation that included a phrase like “grab them by the balls”.
And my math is bad. 11 years ago, Trump would have been in the public eye for at least 25 years.
It’s so strange that shock jock Howard Stern has made a fortune for being raunchy. He’s mellowed a little but his raunchy schtick has kept him on the air thirty-five years.
Yet, people want Billy Bush fired for a conversation he was involved in ten years ago.
