You and many other people should do some introspection about your blind hatred for Trump. He was a Democrat for most his life, and you would be defending him if a D was in front of his name in all likelihood.
As a guy who has asked many women out, I know that picking up that phone and making that call can be nerve wracking. On a simply human level, I admire Trump’s fearless ability to make that call. That’s it. Not everything has to be politics. Many conservative commentators have noted and admired Bill Clinton’s innate ability to connect with people. Finding something good in someone you despise is a sign you aren’t completely deranged.
I consider Kim Jong-un to be a despicable human being and have found nothing good in him. I must be completely deranged.

It is not impossible that the motivation was protect Barron from hearing (more) about his father’s well-known proclivities and desire for women who remind him in some way of his daughter. Improbable but not impossible.
I believe you are correct. If Cohen can prove that he has on multiple past occasions paid sizable sums out of his own pocket to women that Trump has had … encounters with … while married in order to keep them quiet about it, dating to well before this election cycle, that would undermine the conclusion that it was clearly motivated by campaign considerations. He could just be that sort of friend.
So far Cohen has not claimed such a pattern, let alone provided evidence of such. Maybe the confiscated records will show that and exonerate him?
I will join in the chorus here. No. And I do not “hate” Trump. I do however think that he is devoid of anything to admire or respect. His behaviors are pretty much the antithesis of what I respect and admire. I cannot blind myself to all he does that is so detestable. I’ve looked long and hard to find something to not detest in him. It is not there. (No, a rich and powerful behaving like he can grab a pretty young thing by the pussy, or “cold call” her, maybe over and over again at all hours of the night, maybe breathing heavily as he does, does not hit that “admire” switch.)
I can completely get compartmentalizing his immorality and lack of ethics in his private sexual and family life from his other actions. I could put those in a box labelled “none of my business” if he was otherwise working towards actually making us as a society greater and nobler and making the world a better place for his having been here. I’ve known plenty of people in real life who are otherwise ethical moral and intelligent in almost all ways … except when it comes to sex where they put ethics on a shelf and are as stupid as they can be. Trump being the latter does not bother me much. The fact that he is otherwise a stupid incurious anti-intellectual small-minded blowhard who fosters hate, intolerance, and who is making the country and the world a worse place for his having been here is what bothers me.
Is there something decent in him? I cannot say it is impossible. Maybe in private he has a wicked sense of humor? All I can say there being something decent about him is not in evidence.

And, for the record, I’m a liberal, I nearly always vote Democratic, but, in answer to LAZombie, if Trump, exactly as he is now, had run as a Democrat, and been elected as a Democrat, I would have been every bit as disgusted by his presidency as I am now. Regardless of his currently-stated party affiliation, he’s reprehensible, and his behavior while in office has been horrid.
