I disliked him back then too, all through the nineties and the aughts. And if you had asked me whether he was qualified to be President, I would have said no.
Okay, well maybe if he had run as a Democrat, had said all the things that Democrats say, had supported the Democratic party platform, had performed well on stage debating other Democrats, had earned enough respect from Democrats to secure the nomination… then yeah I could see some Democratic voters voting for him. But that would be a completely different person, wouldn’t it? That’s not Donald Trump anymore. That’s Donald Trump from the mirror universe, the one who wears a goatee and carries a dagger on his belt.
Well, nominally, anyway. He self-identified as a Democrat until 1987, then became a Republican, then supported Democrats for a while, then was with the Reform Party for a while, then went back to the Democrats, then went back to the Republicans.
Frankly, I think that he was “Democratic” largely because New York City’s politics are largely Democratic, and he wanted to have the support of politicians who could do favors for him. There’s not much about his actions or views during that era to suggest he was a “true believer” Democrat, so much as an opportunist (which really is just an apt description of him overall).
I don’t think that he was ever any more of a Democrat than he has been a Presbyterian – in other words, a Democrat in name only.
And, that was in an era when a wing of the Democratic party was socially conservative, white working-class Southerners. Specifically due to the party’s support of the Civil Rights Act, most of them left the party to affiliate with the GOP. (And, interestingly, that same group is now among the hardest-core of Trump’s base.)
This is why you find so many posters here defending Anthony Weiner and Al Franken, right?
I love these bizarro world attacks: “I can’t attack you for what you actually say, but I for sure can imagine an alternate reality, and in that alternate reality the goateed version of you sure is acting differently, therefore YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE!” These are always such persuasive rhetorical devices.
How many threads have you started about Democrat Senator Bob Menendez?
“Melgen allegedly directed more than $750,000 in campaign contributions to entities that supported Menendez, according to the indictment, which prosecutors said were inducements to get Menendez to use his influence on Melgen’s behalf. Prosecutors have also accused Menendez of trying to hide the gifts.”
“Throughout the original trial, defense attorneys sought to prove that Menendez and Melgen have been friends since before the former became a senator, and the trips were nothing more than friends traveling together.”
Sound familiar? No, because the media buried this story plus Menendez is about as interesting as paint drying.
There were quite a few articles on the Mendendez trial. You left out that he was not convicted due to a hung jury and they elected not to try him a 2nd time. But he seems pretty sleazy to me.
Now, see, when I ask a woman out, it’s stressful for me, because I’m thinking things like “Will she be offended that I asked?”, and “If she says no, will that make it awkward whenever we see each other?”. When Trump asks a woman out (or, for that matter, grabs her by the pussy), it’s not stressful for him, because he doesn’t give a damn if anyone is offended, and actively prefers when people feel awkward. His lack of stress isn’t due to courage; it’s due to an utter lack of anything resembling decency.
“If this is true, let me be clear. I will bring the weight of the world down upon Mr. Cohen, together with any other party that violated my client’s rights or conspired against her. #thug#zerotolerance#basta”
So, the news that Ellioty Broidy, through Michael Cohen, paid off a Playboy Bunny to keep quiet about their affair smells funny.
First, why did this woman get so much more money than Trump’s affair mistresses? There was a “personal injury” part to this settlemet. Was that because Broidy’s mistress also had a “she alone decided” abortion?
Why was Cohen working for Broidy when Trump seems to be his only client?
Why was this Playboy Bunny’s lawyer the same lawyer, Keith Davidson, that Trump’s mistresses used?
Any why does her NDA use the same pseudonyms (David Dennison and Peggy Peterson) as Stormy Daniel’s NDA?
Wow! I have no memory at all of starting that thread. I’m a libby liberal Democrat and I still can’t stand that guy. There was just a mistrial for a corruption charge and the prosecution decided to not bother retrying him. Now, he’s running again – how many close calls does a politician get before the voters just say no? I really wish he would step aside.
Anyway, LAZombie I’m sure you’ll be along shortly to take back your charge of liberal hypocrisy. Just because Republicans always rally around their guy doesn’t mean Democrats do.
Back to the OP: It will be ironic if this hush money payment actually leads to the undoing of such a corrupt president. They didn’t even really need to make the payment, since he’s right about being able to shoot someone on 5th Avenue and his followers would eat it up.
I dont think he’s much into sex. I’m struck by the fact that he only slept with Daniels once. To prove to himself that he could nail her. It strikes me as a total power move, kind of like the lord of the manor exercising his droit de seigneur.
Because I think he hates these women deep down. Because he knows that if he weren’t rich they wouldn’t look at him twice and would probably laugh at him.
My understanding is that he tried a second time, but when he wasn’t ready on this occasion to make a firm commitment to get her on The Apprentice, she dumped his ass and left.
