But if old white men don’t tell Black people who is and isn’t Black, how will Black people know who is Black? Are they just supposed to figure it out on their own?
I really hope people are telling Trump he was fantastic and needs to keep doing stuff like this event.
If trump is so popular with the Black community, why wasn’t that audience applauding him? Weren’t they Black? If trump was doing this as planned by an advisor, why did they pull him off early? Wasn’t it going as expected?
I’m saying it doesn’t work like that. He’s being coached to say this to peel off some of the black vote. I’m just letting you know it resonates with a decent portion of the black community descended from U.S. chattel slavery. Black Americans is how I put it since we can’t say Jamaican or whatever Caribbean.
It’s enough that it could decide the election.
I personally don’t agree with any of it, but I understand what he is trying to do.
I’m perplexed why anyone would indulge this nonsense, as if it’s worthy of a response.
Same here, but I don’t think it will have any of the desired effect. In fact, it will backfire spectacularly
I’m going to need a cite for that claim, since I’m not about to ask my friends who happen to be Black if Kamala Harris is Black enough for them.
One thing I can tell you is that the kids who called my mixed race Asian-Caucasian children the N- word did not ask for their family genealogy before slurring them. I seriously doubt that Donald Trump gives a shit where Kamala Harris’ family came from, only that she’s not white.
What difference does it make about being the descendant of a slave? If someone from Nigeria say came here today, do you not think shopkeepers would single him out for attention as he browses the shelves? Do you not think police would be more apt to shoot him than they would a white person? You don’t have to be descended from slaves to suffer from racism.
Saying “What are you?” is racist. IMO.
Leads next to “Go back to where you came from!”
Which MAGAs do alot.
When looking at a person of color, as a white southerner, I have never ever thought, “oops, They don’t pass the one drop rule”. That is pretty ridiculous.
The only people doing that are racist, Republicans who believe everything Trump and Fox news tells them.
This ex-loser-president has done more to damage black people and made the level of race rage increase than anyone since the Civil War.
Of course. Sorry I was unclear.
It’s because Trump is consistently trying to hit this point. It’s why he said black jobs at the debate and keeps comparing himself to Lincoln. He just tried it again at this convention. You may think it’s nonsense and hate my posts, but this is a real issue that needs plain discussion.
I’m trying to explain what he’s trying to do and why, there is a strategy here in Trumps view.
He’s not going to win the black vote, but he doesn’t need to. He just has to convince enough of the black vote to not show for Harris.
He’s bringing up Lincoln because younger black people are saying the Democrats don’t address their issues even though they’ve been the loyal base for years.
It’s resonating on a small level, but enough that it could decide the election.
Trump is desperate and full of shit.
End of discussion.
Perhaps someone ought to ask Trump if his running mate’s children are white or Indian-American? They’re in exactly the same situation as Kamala.
Yeah, yeah. Lots of times.
I’ll grant you that I’m old now, at 52, and things may have changed, maybe. I have mixed family members, the youngest is not even 30, and they have all went through this. Literally people come up and asking what you are. My best friend that is of Irish decent and has half Indonesian kids says his kids dealt with it too when they were in the US. So bad that his wife does not want to move back to the US.
I’m not for Trump, but I’m just letting you know that the black vote is not in the bag for Harris and that this is a wedge issue.
I heard you the first time.
Um, guys? @split_p_j is exactly right about what Trump is trying to do. This is 100% why it’s a prominent Republican talking point. He, like all the black Republicans on Twitter (some of them probably real people, even) are playing towards a certain type of racist black man.
Where I think he’s wrong is in how he portrays this as common. It’s a small subset–but a subset that Trump could reach. It’s why Trump has a higher appeal to black men than anyone would expect. He’s good at bringing out the racism in people.
The vast majority of black people saw Obama as a Black President. That said, his skin is darker and less tan than Harris’s. He also is a man, and talks black (even if not AAVE). And he is half white, which plays differently than half Indian.
So, yeah, there may be more people who question Kamala’s blackness among the black male population. And, yeah, Trump and all the other race baiters are trying to appeal to them.
Sure, they probably overestimate the reach of those people because they also see Kamala as not black. And they still mistake social media likes with popular support.
But there is no way this isn’t a calculated strategy to try and win over black people. That’s why it’s always a black person on Twitter saying it. And it wouldn’t be this widespread if it wasn’t a coordinated attack by the Republican party.
I’ll agree that the Black vote is not automatically in the bag for Harris, but it’s not because of Harris’ race. If Trump wants a wedge issue, he should just keep hammering on economics. He might even be able to cite one or two statistics that are factually accurate.
It’s not desperation though, it’s a calculated strategy. You can dismiss me all you want, but this election is going to be won on the margins. It’s going to come down to thousands of votes in a few states. He has his base in the bag, swinging the Black American vote, even only a few percent, could be the key to him winning.
That’s why he went to this convention in the first place. You do see that right?
