I’m not sure you’re right. I was reading about Robert Smalls yesterday and was surprised to learn that back then it was the Republicans who were the party of Black Americans and the Democrats who were the party of the racists, and then I remembered the switch in the 1960s, so I think it’s more correct to say that it’s Southern white Americans who are more likely to be racists. Right now they happen to vote Republican; that could easily change. There are plenty of Republicans outside the south: are they all racists too?
The Republicans are the party that welcomes them in; that embraces them; that allows them to rise to positions of power, that votes them into office. Pointing out that it’s more typical for them to do these things regionally does not negate the fact that they are the PARTY that does them.
I have more Southern friends than Republican friends, and they and I get touchy when someone paints the white Southern population as slack-jawed yokel racists, while us Yankees are all broad-minded saintly hand-holders.
Randy Newman had a good snarky take on that way back in 1972.
Meh…that video came up a bit “short”
Republicans are conservative and conservative resists change. So, if you come up with a program to eradicate racism in America without changing anything, they’re cool.
That’s also due to white supremacism. Without white supremacism, there would have been no beliefs in the superiority of the settlers vs the natives.
Trump is more of a liar, and Clinton’s not a felon. Comey specifically said that her mistakes didn’t rise to the level of criminal behavior. And this jives with my Navy experience – I’ve known dozens or even hundreds of people who have mishandled classified or controlled information, and none of them were prosecuted. The only ones who are prosecuted are ones who do so willfully for profit, for spying, or in a deliberate release to journalists.
Ahem.
“jibes.”
“jives” gives an entirely different meaning to your sentence.
Evading arrest.
It happened around the same time Clothahump became a proven Communist and a child molester.
<Trump>“…I’ve heard people say.”</Trump>
Pretty amusing how nervous alot of the dems are getting. Six months ago your bitch was a lock.
Can’t wait until this stupid charade cycle is over.
So, uhhh he was proven to be a communist, at which point he became a child molester ?
PS. That is a joke folks he is neither! But the Hal Briston and him and goats is still totally true!
Yes. The non-racists left the party long ago. The Republicans are the party of white racism, their agenda is one of racism, therefore being a Republican or voting for them is in itself a racist act whether it’s intended to be or not. A person can’t support the Republicans without supporting racism any more than someone can support the KKK without supporting racism. And various other bigotries as well.
It’s not a “phantom specter”, it’s a real force in American history, society, and culture. Thankfully it’s not the dominant force any more, and it’s been dying a long and very slow death, but Trump is empowering it. He could use the same brutal language to describe David Duke and various other white supremacists who have supported him as he has to describe Obama, Hillary, and various others, but all he’ll offer are tepid disavowals. David Duke almost became governor of a state just 25 years ago or so – was that a fluke? Have times really changed that much since the early 90s in terms of how his former supporters feel about black people? Considering all the polls showing Trump supporters’ belief in birtherism, negative feelings for black people, negative feelings for other minorities, and the like, I think it’s still, unfortunately, a significant force. We should do everything we can to continue its decline, and Trump’s election would reverse this progress.
Posts #8 and #40 are basically the sentiments of the Trump voters I’ve talked to…
.
Cite? That’s not what I heard from a lot of very smart people.
Clinton hatred isn’t rational or based on fact. It’s the result of echo-chamber hyper-reverberation, where things get repeated and repeated and morph into knee-jerk, unthinking platitudes.
It has little to do with her actual policies, and mostly to do with her personality, and her inability to woo the media. The result is that so many people say they “don’t trust” her, but can’t say what they expect her to actually do that would be so bad. (The few things they point to are nowhere to be found in her policies.)
Of course it’s easy for Trump to leverage this–he doesn’t have to do very much.
I have problems with some of Clinton’s policies, but I can also recognize the mindless hysteria against her when I see it.
Dude, the Dope isn’t what you think it is
So you’re not coming back to defend your nasty allegations? Not even to answer questions or “refudiate” the facts given to you?
Not only are you a drooling moron, you’re a gutless coward, too.
It’s very easy to understand why you’re a Trump fan: You’re one of America’s worst Americans. Deplorable filth.
Hillary isn’t what you think she is.
Come to think of it, neither is Trump.
