Give me that in nice viral image form, and I would heavily consider violating my “no politics” posts policy on Facebook.
Depends on your point of view.
I disagree in that you seem to think the Internet has become a tool to make things right, my personal observation is that guizot is right on what it brings:
"… (an) echo-chamber hyper-reverberation, where things get repeated and repeated and morph into knee-jerk, unthinking platitudes. "
There are no editorial standards, no care for epistemic analysis, very little fact-checking. As a medium to generate public awareness , in and of itself, doesn’t help things IMO. It is a fantastic tool to get to the facts, if you are in that mindset but mostly people take guizot’s path.
See how things have devolved right here in this thread: “She’s a liar!, nuh-uh he’s a liar!”.
See how easily and quickly conspiracy theories spring up and propagate now, the anti-vaxers movement would be a blip in the radar without it, blipping flat earth “theory” is gaining traction. Everyone knows things that are just wrong.
The Internet is a big sea of information, the problem is the vast majority of people don’t know how to navigate it and they are easy prey for Siren’s songs and pirates… flat earthers fell right off the edge.
It’s all the Presidential candidates (and a couple of VPs) going back to 2007.
Totally agree.
The funny thing is the left thinks that such things apply to them much less than it applies to the right.
I like the chart, but “J” Bush? Did I miss a Bush?
Politifact started in 2007.
I am assuming Jeb!
Does anyone? I mean, he was entertaining in an “Oh look, the dog is eating his feces again” sort of way, but still…
If they had morals and standards they wouldn’t be Republicans.
And calls for people to “assimilate and become productive members of society” are just standard victim blaming and demonization. It gets hauled out about every group that gets targeted as “Them”; speeches about how “They” are lazy and “They” won’t assimilate.
So of course we have to “encourage” them with lots of beatings and killings. That’s how such arguments always end up.
I’m not sure how you read such an optimistic outlook into my post. If things will be made “right” (that is, more agreeable to me personally) it would be through propaganda. One could raise a freedom argument, but I’m neutral on it. Outcomes could be good or bad.
Bernays died in 1995. I don’t know if he ever wrote anything about the burgeoning internet. From what I know of him he would be horrified of Trump and say this is why the elites need to guide the population instead of letting them decide for themselves.
*Trump *is an “elite”, so that’s not much of a solution.
A-ha! Thanks.
I appreciate it, but that’s way too much for a Facebook post. People’s eyes will just glaze over. If they were data nerds, I wouldn’t have to worry about them voting Trump.
It even took me a few seconds to find Clinton in all that. And you only have as long as they scroll the page.
I’m basically talking one of those political ad images.
“…or stay on the line.”
The workaround that most phone trees implement to allow the aggrieved Anglo to proceed in God’s own language by doing nothing except stewing momentarily in their simmering rage. Sadly, this is not a perfect solution, doing nothing to mitigate the indignity forced upon God-fearing, flag-waving native born American Hispanophobes who have to surrender two or three seconds of their doubtlessly precious and by all accounts rich, accomplished and fulfilling lives all because the goddamn illegals are taking over our goddamn country.
I never said “there are no morons voting for Hillary.” I simply said this thread is about people who (IMHO) should probably be considered morons based solely on who they plan to vote for – namely, Trump – especially if they also think Trump is “unqualified to be President.”
Sorry I had to take the time to explain this simple distinction to you – three times and counting.
LA LA LA I CAN’T HEAR YOU
In other words, don’t expect your puny facts to convert the dedicated conservative.
Check out the ‘comments’ section. If there was ever an example of people sticking their fingers their ears, it’sright there, in which various mooks a) flatly claim the chart is complete bullshit (without evidence); b) that it unfairly targets more Republicans than Democrats (missing the point that it represents people who have run for President or VP; c) that Politifact is some sort of false-flag operation funded by George Soros (again without a shred of evidence).
I would have preferred almost any alternative to Trump, but:[ol]
[li]He’s not Hillary[/li][li]He’s not Hillary[/li][li]We can always hope he dies soon after the inauguration (or even that the “he doesn’t really want to be president, and he’ll resign once he wins” rumor is true).[/li][li]Hopefully there are enough checks and balances that even an incompetent clown as president can’t do too much damage.[/li][/ol]
Maybe some of his ‘second amendment people’ can give a hand here.
So you are going to vote for “an incompetent clown” and just hope he dies soon? And if he doesn’t, let’s just hope the rest of the government will keep him from doing too much damage?
