Trump voters prefer Jefferson Davis as president to Barack Obama

Bullshit. Trump and co. would love to characterize it as such, but that is not what happened and that is not what she said.

Because killing innocent people is not a primary tenet of communism. It’s just an unfortunate practical side effect. Also communists don’t hold rallies in the US for people to get upset about.

She said that roughly half of Trump’s supporters were simply misguided people desperate for change, and the other half were the basket of deplorables, which included not only white supremacists but also sexists, homophobes, and xenophobes.

No, no, I get it - Trump insulted the disabled, poor people, immigrants, Hispanics, Muslims, women, blacks, the US intelligence services, the media, the uneducated and his own supporters and that was fine because he never stopped lying and insulting people long enough to get a bead on him. Clinton’s mistake was that she was too specific and limited in scope. If she’d insulted a new group every other day she’d have taken much less damage for the remarks. It’s the same way that Trump could tell a lie every three minutes on average during the debates BUT HER EMAILS.

Really, Bricker, I’m sure the DNC greatly appreciate your advice on how they’d fight so much better with their hands tied behind their backs, but no one is buying it.

And she turned out to be right. Funny, that.

I think a big part of it wasn’t the insult, it was who was saying it and how it was delivered.

A deplorables line might’ve been endearing coming from Bernie (“Oh, look, Gramps is telling the rednecks to get off his lawn…”) or even a great zinger coming from Biden* (“Hey, Uncle Joe, good one! Insult us again!”)*. From Hillary it felt like a dismissive slam from a prissy, entitled woman who was assuming she could say anything because she deserved to be swept into office in a landslide.

And like most of her comments, it was delivered in an annoying tone of voice. I voted for her, but I’m grateful I don’t have to listen to her every day. Of course, Donald is worse, which is why the mute button on my remote is worn down.

Then run as a Republican - you can insult every single person who might lean towards supporting your opponent (or just throw up as many obstacles to voting as possible for them) and still win.

No, true shit. Her insult covered Trump supporters, calling half of them phobic and the other half so desperate for change they’d support a racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic campaign.

…which, if so, turned out to be true.

As I said: I guess she should have lied more.

“I’d rather be right than be president." - Henry Clay, 1838

and Hilary Clinton, 2016

And Gyrate, 2017

And the Democratic Presidential candidate in 2020? What should his or her quote be? Same one?

This. If insulting your opponents actually made a politician unelectable, Trump wouldn’t even have got within smelling distance of the Republican nomination.

How about “Well, you folks already fell for I’ll make Mexico pay for the wall and I’ll bring back the good jobs and I’ll lock her up and I’ll get a much better healthcare plan and I’ll make great trade deals. What pandering lies do you want to hear this time?”

“The end justifies the means.” - quite a lot of extremely bad people over history. And Bricker.

Lying? Just fine. Voter suppression? Anything goes as long as the courts don’t overrule it (eventually). Collusion with foreign governments? Well, actually - hey, what about that thing Hillary said? It’s all good as long as the Republicans win, no matter the consequences to the country. But the Democrats have to fight fair, even if the GOP are wearing brass knuckles, or else it’s all their own fault.

And that’s why liberals are hypocrites.

I would stand by mine. Not a problem. I have nothing to be ashamed of in my voting record. I don’t vote for racists and fascists and dominionists.

But I’m just as likely to say “none of your business” just to piss people off.

As far as votes / voting numbers being equally representative, obviously they are not, since s"ome alt-righter in some desolate prairie shit-hole’s" vote counts for more than mine, thanks to the electoral college.

Clinton won the popular vote (and it eats at Loser Dump constantly), but she still lost. So much for EQUAL value of all votes.

Yeah. They LOVE to throw insults, bragging on how they hate PC, but just give it back to them and they whine like spoiled 2 year olds.

Losers.

Indeed, it IS.

And do you think that will help elect the candidate who says those words?

And she was RIGHT. They are Deplorables. And now they are enabling and supporting NAZIs.

Those words and promises worked.

Remember, you’re telling that to a guy who flatters himself to be a good Christian.

Do you see any path by which a candidate can get elected and tell (substantially) the truth, while not insulting the bulk of his opposition’s voters?

In my view, Obama did it. So I disagree with your apparent view that it’s not possible.

Why would you not endorse his path – the guy that won – and stop praising the path used by the candidate that failed to win?

Here’s the full Clinton deplorables quote.

This is certainly not intended to be insulting to every Trump voter, but I don’t even see how it could be interpreted as insulting every Trump voter. There are many Trump voters who would say that they voted for Trump because, “the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures, and they’re just desperate for change,” or some set of reasons that is reasonably close to that.
