I have very little use for McCain as a politician. His choice of Sarah Palin helped get us to Trump. However, and in spite of the fact the he might have been a careless pilot, the man is a bona fide war hero who endured an ordeal the great majority of us can’t imagine. Anyone who calls him a traitor needs to be dick-punched without delay.
Which of course raises the question of which is worse. The president ordering an infantile action, or a president whose deportment is such that his staff can anticipate that he would desire an infantile action.
Sen. Klobuchar relates that McCain kept muttering the names of dictators throughout Trump’s inauguration.
Trump bashed McCain before the election, but what really ticked Trump off was McCain not voting to get rid of Obamacare. If McCain had voted to cancel Obamacare possibly Trump would have backed off at least somewhat.
Anyone who thinks this is a big deal knows NOTHING about how political staff operates. They go out of their way to protect their bosses from anything that looks bad in the media. Obviously, any picture of Trump with a ship named “McCain” behind him would cause the media to rehash the whole story. Why even go through that? It’s just like the staff will not allow a fat candidate to be photographed with a pig or other large animal in the background. But since you all hate Trump so much it must be something insidious. Grow up a little.
I’m not really seeing an election angle, here.
I see more complaining. I’ll send this to the Pit so y’all can really get your complaining on.
Go wild.
Agree completely! Let’s save our outrage for something serious, like if Trump ever wears a tan suit!
In this case the candidate is the pig, and they wanted to avoid the “whole story” of the pig acting pig-like. If Trump wasn’t such a complete ass, there would be no issue with the USS McCain being in the photo.
So they cover it up which creates a bigger news story? That’s how political staff should operate?
Indeed. A ship named for Cadet Bone Spurs should not be hauling garbage…
Special snowflakes need safe spaces created around them.

Trumps hatred of McCain is one of his few good traits.
Well, except for the fact that he hates him for all the wrong reasons. He hates the honorable and decent things McCain did, not stuff that McCain can be legitimately criticized for.
Avoiding the pig exhibit at the Iowa state fair is a bit different than covering up the name of a warship. You’re right, perhaps the media would have made a story of it if Trump wasn’t busy praising murderous dictators and condemning a Vice President of the USA on foreign soil
Another example of Trump unhinged.
Again projection. “[S]poiled brat antics”? The irony of Trump saying McCain benefited from his father and grandfather is deep. Maybe he did somewhat, but I’d say McCain was his own man. Trump, on the other hand, was initially staked and then repeatedly bailed out financially by his father because he’s an incompetent businessman. Can you imagine what a failure in life Trump would be if he had been born into a middle-class family? He’d be Biff Tannen from Back to the Future:
The character is portrayed as a towering, violent and aggressive bully who obtains what he wants by intimidating others into doing his work for him, or by cheating. He and his family members are shown to misuse idioms in a way that makes them appear stupid and pathetic despite their intention to insult or scare. His favorite insult is “butthead”.

Biff Tannen was based on Trump.
Biff Tannen was based on Trump.
I did not know that, but it turns out this is true:
‘Back to the Future’ Writer: Biff Is Donald Trump
“That’s what we were thinking about,” says screenwriter Bob Gale
The similarities between the megalomaniacal billionaire hotel-casino owner with hair the texture of cotton candy, a penchant for surgically enhanced arm candy and outsize ambitions that appears in Back to the Future Part II and the one presently appearing on the presidential campaign trail?
Not so coincidental after all!
Back to the Future Part II screenwriter Bob Gale confirmed in an interview with the Daily Beast that Donald Trump was the inspiration for the character he and director Robert Zemeckis created back in 1989.
I guess I have to say “Good job, screenwriters!” Although, the first movie came out in 1985. I’ve seen that one several times; the sequels maybe only once or twice and don’t really remember them except the Clint Eastwood quote in the Western one.

I agree that even when Trump is right it is always for the wrong reasons. There was nothing honorable about McCain. McCain was every bit as deplorable as Trump.
