Trump won't rule out 3rd term

An excellent video of an excellent speech, @Stranger_On_A_Train. Thank you.

Elie Mystal writing for The Nation sums up what I’ve been thinking - Trump knows he can’t have a third term, and so do his cronies, but they want people to think he can so he won’t seem like a lame duck and to stave off their own impending irrelevance.

Yes, excellent video @Stranger_On_A_Train . We all need to be worried and fight.

For our sake (not god’s) everyone vote.

My predictions. Elections will be ignored. Trump will just continue on his 2nd and final forever term. Many states will get mad. What are they gonna do?

I guess they could suspend paying any federal taxes. But that’s a two way street. No idea if that would work at all. Any state that squawks is gonna be in the crosshairs.

Trump (or the people propping up his demented near-corpse) will certainly try for this, casting doubt on the validity of elections or declaring some kind of manufactured emergency to justify not transferring power. Whether they will succeed or not is another question; it really depends on whether the Congress will back him, and whether will have sufficiently gutted military leadership that he can rely on the Department of Defense to threaten to act against citizen and state resistance. (I’ve previously observed that Trump was trying to build a paramilitary by massively increasing the size of DHS, which is neither constrained by Posse Comitatus and already has its own dedicated court system, but that recruitment drive is [not going well] even with massive bonuses and absurdly relaxed hiring standards.)

He tried that once already. How’d that work out?

He pardoned all of the traitors. Got some people killed, and destroyed, oh about 2000 families.

I suspect they learned from that. It would not surprise me if he tries to overthrow the government again. People just waved their fingers at him last time. “That’s naughty!”

And it resulted in legislation that explicitly prohibits what his followers tried to do in Congress.

 None of that matters to a traitor. Not at all. These people have NO imagination. I suspect that either force or ‘ignorance’ of the constitution will be used. “I gotta move out? But this is my house!” Rince and repeat. DJT saw that on a shampoo bottle once (back when he could read).

In that case, the Constitution no longer applies whatsoever and no blue state is obligated to recognize the sovereignty of the federal government. Now you’ve got a civil war on your hands.

When once side has a military and the other doesn’t, it’s not much of a war.

So are we assuming the National Guard is going to be abolished between now and 2029?

He won’t be around for a third term after S. Korea put a curse on him. He thought that the gold crown they gave him echoed his kingly ambitions, but it’s really traditional S. Korean funerary gear

You know what they say about wrestling with a pig?

The tipping point in most revolutions is when the military refuses to fire on their countries’ own citizens. The armed forces oath is to the constitution, not the president. It remains to be seen how it would play out.

We’ve been declared “enemy terrorists;” any actions taken against opponents of the current regime will be seen as legitimate by the Department of War and all the other departments fielding paramilitary personnel.

FromComic Sands, shared by George Takei, so TIFWIW.

Drawing on historical examples like Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s four-term presidency

Which is why Republicans pushed through the 22nd Amendment in the first place.

The memo may or may not be seriously supported by the Trump regime, but the Third Term Project is a real effort and it’s frontman, Shane Trejo, presented at CPAC 2025.

You’re recall when CPAC trolled the public in 2021 making a stage shaped like the Odal rune and then accused critics as being hyperbolic and overwrought. Now they are engaging in racial profiling, rounding up people who look like they might be immigrants and using the Department of Justice to persecute critics, and generally acting like the emergent fascist movement that they previously just cosplayed.

When Trump talks about running for another term, or just not leaving the White House, he’s not joking. He doesn’t have that good of a sense of humor.

Apologies for the hijack, but this reminded me of an exchange I had on FB a day or so ago, re: Trump’s video of him dropping excrement on protestors. A Hispanic guy posted an image of George Takei in a straitjacket in a padded cell with ‘Trump’ written all over the place.

Me: Yeah, you’ll be laughing when your Messiah’s goons disappear you to Uganda.

Him: I’m an American citizen. :united_states:

Me: So are a LOT of people who are being disappeared.

He did not reply to my last.

If the plan is to pass a Constitutional amendment to let Trump run for a third term, then it’s dead in the water. There’s no way in hell the GOP is going to have 67 Senate seats any time soon, let alone get 37 state legislatures to play along.
