There are a couple of Republicans who it’s pretty clear think Trump is insane. An investigation that destroyed him and put Pence in charge while leaving their hands clean would be ideal from their perspective.
And the sooner they do it, the better, from their POV. Excise the tumor, let the healing begin. Ideally, Trump’s a distant memory by 2020.
Is “a couple” enough to force through investigations that a majority of Republicans may not want?
The Republicans had 52 seats in the Senate in 1994 (appointment of Ken Starr as special investigator). Democrats now have 48 seats (including Independents), so wouldn’t need that many defectors to get to same makeup as in 1994.
Pragmatism would mean installing Pence. Trump offers Republicans absolutely no advantage over Pence and an enormous downside. With the total chaos he’s inflicting, he’s interfering with enacting their agenda.
Except that he’s ginning up an enthusiastic sector of their base and providing crucial cover for their undrained swamp.
Without Trump swaggering around, a lot of deplorables and non-deplorable “shakeup” advocates are going to start noticing that the government looks a hell of a lot like the same old establishment elite that Trump told them he’d kick to the curb. (Of course, even with Trump at its (figure)head the government looks a hell of a lot like that same old establishment elite, but as long as Trump’s still around the Trumpsters won’t really notice.)
We’ll see how it shakes out, but this is in no way a normal presidency. Those who say there is no way a Republican congress would impeach Trump I think are making unwarranted assumptions.
I don’t think that Graham is all in on the “wiretapp” idea. I do think that he is at least as worried about Trumps contact with Russians.
From here"
I’m nor Lindsay Graham fan, but I got the impression he didn’t believe the bogus wiretap claims and would like to embarrass Trump by showing they’re not true.

It would be such a sweet form of treachery for the Steel Magnolia to pretend to totally believe Il Douche on this one, dabbing his eyes with a lilac-scented hanky while demanding a thorough and pubic investigation to clear his name.
Following me around in a different thread isn’t going to change anything.
I very nicely mentioned something you said came off badly. At the same time, I told someone else not to make fun of your English. For some reason, you just flipped the fuck out.
I don’t really care about contempt from people who are treating me badly. I’m sorry. There’s nothing wrong with telling DM00 that iiandyiiii being mad at him means he’s really fucked up.
You’re free to continue following me around and trying to make fun of me. Do know, however, that I won’t see any of it. It’s too bad, too. I had some respect for you before.
We interrupt this thread with the latest Quinnipiac poll.

What are the odds that Trump would make hyperbolic statements?
I can’t speak for anyone else but I don’t assume they wouldn’t. I just think that’s a real chance.
I’m not a PTB, but TTBOMK, that’s perfectly within our standards, as long as it’s in the Pit.
It’s up to you how much want to be seen as the guy hurling abuse at the man in the Penalty Box.
Out of curiosity, does “dwarf” even have a legal definition?
Wow. Well-respected, non-partisan polling shows how so many Americans disagree with almost everything Trump says and does (and they think Sessions should resign). I’m relieved and heartened about Americans – but it makes you wonder even more how this guy won the election.
No, a medical one. (Which is, indeed, an adult height of under 4’10".)
26% of eligible voters, in the right places.
