It’s a reference to an old movie called The Caine Mutiny starring Humphrey Bogart and Fred MacMurray (sp?). Bogart’s paranoid submarine captain becomes obsessed over some strawberries that go missing from the refrigerator, leading the crew to decide he should maybe be removed from command.
The problem with a lot of folks like the OP is that they rail against “liberalism”, but aren’t railing against actual liberalism, but the fun house mirror version that they’ve been spoon fed by various sources too numerous to name here.
I was always told that if you don’t know both sides of an issue, then you don’t really even know your own side of the issue. To defend your position, you have to know how it’s most likely to be attacked. This means thinking like the other guy, something that they wouldn’t try to do, even on a bet. So, basically they’re left with all the old standbys, fulminating, deflection, straw men, argumenten ad hominem, etc.
