Trump's Cabinet of Curiosities

Trump sure showed Obama with the Flynn hire. I could hope that Trump will find someone qualified to fill the position, instead of basing his decisions on pettiness and spite, but I won’t hold my breath. Amateur hour is in full swing with the Keystone Kops administration.

Andrew Puzder’s nomination for Secretary of Labor looks like it’s in deep yogurt: http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/15/politics/top-senate-republicans-urge-white-house-to-withdraw-puzder-nomination/index.html

I’m confused. DeVos was great, but this guy is somehow not good enough?

Aaaaaaand he’s out: Trump's Labor secretary nominee Andrew Puzder withdraws

At least there is some semblance of normality in that (a Cabinet nominee withdrawing due to unsuitability for office).

Though who knows what Trump will come up with to replace Puzder…Gary Busey, maybe?

It was almost undoubtedly the revelation of his employing an undocumented immigrant worker that cost him the needed support within the GOP.

He does not hate immigrants enough for some Republicans.

What I wasn’t aware of when I posted this was that footage was released today of a 1990 Oprah Winfrey Show episode, in which Puzder’s ex-wife related information on how he had abused her (FWIW, some years later, she dropped those claims as part of a child custody agreement.)

The footage had been shown to Senators last month, but hadn’t been made public until today.

It wouldn’t be because he doesn’t want a berth on a plague ship, would it?

I have heard he referred to the job as “a shit sandwich”. The man is very smart to avoid this gong-show at all costs.

So far it appears to be like the job of the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher each year at Hogwart’s.

I’ve seen and heard Thrump and other Republicans describe votes by Senate and House Democrats against Thrump nominees and tear down Washington bills as being ‘obstructionist’, as being all that a powerless party can do, delay just for the sake of meanness, delay to show how pouty they are about not having the upper hand…

Well, I think they miss the point. Never in our history, best I can tell, since the Civil War, have the ideologies of each side been so radically opposed. For example, when Democrats vote in unison against a DeVos or a Pruitt, or…, they are genuinely expressing their disgust at the intentions of the nominee. We shudder to realize there are actual Americans who think the EPA should be shut down, who seriously believe that Climate Change is a fallacy, a ruse, a product of some scheme to hurt big business or energy companies, or to turn our country over to the UN, or some other such crapola. We quake at the realization that the Republican Party is willing to put a big donor, private and charter school (read Christian schools, a lot) pusher in charge of public education…how in God’s Holy Name can they be so foolish?

So, no, just using those two examples, ignoring all the rest of the stupid appointments, all the other intentions to gut the State Department, or the CIA, or any other investigative or regulatory agency…ignoring that, Democrat votes are votes on principle, not just to be obstructive. Actions such as the Thrump is taking will continue to stir up the Democratic voting base, will inspire it to plead in court for relief from gerrymandering, from voter suppression, from the intention to destroy Federal Government and to relieve the rich from helping the poor. 2018 is too far away, though. If Thrump continues his assault on American values, his administration will be under overwhelming pressure well before the end of 2017.

Another one bites the dust.

The new NSA will be HR McMaster a highly regarded general according to this piecein Foreign Policy which was written shortly before the announcement.

On the whole seems like a solid pick especially in light of the stories that Bolton was a serious possibility. Hopefully McMaster, Mattis and Tillerson will work well together and will form a firewall against the general craziness of the Trump White House.

I think it’s comical that you think the Secretary of Education is “in charge of public education”. I had difficulty taking the rest of what you said seriously over the top of your constant misspelling the President’s name. Shudder, quake, and plead all you want though. I don’t mind.

McMaster was on TIME magazine’s 2014 list of the Top 100 most influential people in the world; the accompanying article called him the warrior-strategist for the 21st century.

He also seems no-nonsense and independent-minded enough, I suspect it won’t be long before he’s butting heads with Trump’s inner circle of alt-right yahoos.

On the other hand, “General McMaster” is, like, the *perfect *villain name. Maybe that’s what attracted Trump in the first place.

Well, you know, it’s essential to The Donald that people “look the part.” Having the right name is part of that.

Hmmm…Okay, ‘in charge’ is a bit over the top. Yet, if Thrump’s intention, along with all the other oddiotic Repubicans, is to discourage any overall setting of educational goals, or to push for a system of private education vs. public…she is the perfect person for the job. I happen to believe that approach is reprehensible, that the problem with public education is the Republican philosophy that ‘ignorance is bliss’.
