Bannon knows stuff.
If Trump fires him in Trump’s typical ham-handed fashion (a la Comey finding out from TV and Priebus being sent on a limo ride to oblivion), and Bannon doesn’t like it…Bannon could have a lot to say to Mueller et al.

Bannon, meet bus. Bus, meet Bannon.
I’m pretty sure Bannon is going to turn Breitbart into The TrumpSucks Journal and Sentinel. And he knows where the bodies are buried. Never pick a fight with people that buys ink by the barrel.
Could be. Or it could be that Bannon has been rewarded (cash? property?) and will be doing some pro-Trump maneuvering. He still hates McMaster, for example, and no doubt Trump would like to be rid of McMaster (because he’s mean and won’t let Trump do stuff Trump wants to do).
The one thing I’m sure of is that Bannon doesn’t have any personal loyalty to Trump. He openly called Trump a tool that “we” (the alt-right) could use, months before he signed on to the campaign. But he would play along with Trump–refrain from attacking Trump or spilling the no-doubt interesting beans–if the rewards were right.
I don’t know if he will go at Trump himself. That limits the chance of being able to worm his way back onto his shoulder whispering. His opponents in the administration though better brace for a full bore attack.
This may well cost McMaster a chance at ever pinning on his fourth star or getting a COCOM. Senate confirmation, after literally ever personal and professional action during his life is put under the microscope and spun incessantly, could be difficult for him.
Apparently, Bannon’s “going to war” on behalf of Donald Trump, and means to direct Breitbart to support Trump’s agenda.
I suspect that what this means is that Bannon and Donald wanted a pro-Nazi voice to fight back against universal condemnation that Donald has recieved this week. Remember Bannon said that if Democrats are talking about racism - Donald wins.
This way, Bannon can provoke the Dems into talking about racism without having to waste time getting past Gen Kelly at the front desk. Plus Donald can go on speaking in dog whistles while Bannon decodes them for the alt-right.
At least, that’s the plan. Like all of Donald’s plans, I’m sure this one is foolproof.
Difference between the Federal government and a website is… well… I mean, one has the power to command armies and tax, the other has to go begging for advertising money from companies which, just this week, distanced themselves from Bannon and his recent boss.
