I am amused to see that Trump just said we should declare opioid abuse a national emergence, just a day after his very own Secretary of HHS, Tom Price, stated that this approach wasn’t needed.
On the substance (no pun intended) of the matter, I don’t have a strong opinion - from what I’ve read, the official declaration of an emergency can be helpful, but the job of getting more treatment and prevention services in place can be done with or without an official declaration.
But Price is just the latest in a long line of Trump’s people to be publicly contradicted. I wonder if anyone, outside of immediate family members (and maybe not even some o them) will get out of his administration without this sort of public humiliation.
Because there’s a recommendation in there that Republicans will HATE with the heat of a thousand suns.
Currently, Medicaid will not reimburse rehab facilities with more than 16 beds. This is because of an old rule intended to keep the federal government from paying for long-term psychiatric hospitalization.
The commission has recommended changing that. Which will be a huge Medicaid expansion. Paul Ryan will drown in his own tears. And Trump is beating the “pass a healthcare bill” drum again. And he’s been beating on Mitch, too.
That Obama-hugging scamp Chris Christie throws a wrench into the GOP machine again!!
Trump has the biggest bus. The greatest bus. He got a call just the other day from the head of the bus commission, told him he had the best bus they’d ever heard of, he’d be honored to be thrown under it.
The NYT has noted today something that I don’t think is a very big surprise: Of all the major political figures in the world, the one he has never, ever criticized is Putin.
It’s a little melodramatic opinion piece, but it highlights how Trump treats people:
[Donald Trump has a sickening fetish for cruelty](Donald Trump has a sickening fetish for cruelty)
Trump is basically a 71-year old kid delightedly melting ants under his magnifying glass

The sheer incompetence of this President/Clown is dazzling, even setting aside his corrupt and treasonous doings — mind-blowing. Truth is stranger than fiction.
Approaching late middle age, I was curious what would happen in 2016 and am glad, I guess, that I lived to find out. [SUB][SUP]BTW, Mr. Wyvern’s post caught my eye because I have a personal interest in the Sate Dept., though to say even this much may give away a secret.[/SUP][/SUB]
