Trump's MSG Rally 10/27/2024

I’m sure it’s being mentioned in other threads, but Trump held a rally at Madison Square Gardens yesterday (Sunday). My question is, what was the purpose(s)?

In case anyone isn’t aware, the media was making comparisons to a Pro-Nazi rally held there in 1939 before it even started. Racist and otherwise insulting remarks were made about various groups of Americans. If you want details on this, there are plenty of news reports. The event lasted well over 5 hours.

My interest is why? Not, why the rally, that’s obvious. Trump’s ego must be stroked. Have a large event in one of the most famous venues in the nation to show everyone your broad support. Make money. That all makes sense.

But, when this thing was in the planing stages, someone must have floated the idea of holding a rally like the Pro-Nazi groups did in the late 1930s. Let’s do it at MSG, just like they did. Let’s have speakers spewing out hatred and racist divisions, just like…, well, you know. And, the Trump camp thought this was a great idea!

Was it a signal? Certainly, they could have done without the insulting language. I don’t believe for one second anybody on stage said anything that hadn’t been vetted by those who organized the event. The whole thing appears to have been designed and executed to invite direct comparisons to the Nazis. On purpose.

Is that a signal to the world? “Watch Out! Here we come, again!”

Kinda. I really do feel like there is a certain degree of admiration for Hitler and Nazis among Trump’s base and even American conservatives in general. Not necessarily the Holocaust or WWII part, but certainly the fashion, pomp, gross nationalism, and political repression parts. You know, those parts that some half-watched Star Trek episode convinced them were the economically and sociologically positive aspects of National Socialism.

I think you are giving Trump organizers too much credit. While they may have done some vetting, I doubt they knew what their speakers were going to say, and frankly, it didn’t matter what they said.

Even though NYC is not Trump-friendly country, they were clearly playing to their base, which I don’t think is mostly made up of Nazi wannabes.Would they really select MSG because of a Nazi rally connection? I doubt it.

I don’t think that MSG was part of any master plan they had. I just think Trump wanted to be on the biggest stage he could find to show everyone how loved and important he really is. The fact that we can draw parallels with what the Nazis did at their rallies I think is just a coincidence, but a coincidence Trump is happy about if he thinks it will get him elected for a third time.

I’m sure this was just a coincidence, coming from one of Trump’s closest advisors.

Really that can just stand.

Trump may not have appreciated the symbolism. Miller? Definitely.

I’ve already said numerous times before that Trump was doomed in this election, but this was the final nail of final nails in the coffin. Any likelihood that he would win the presidency flew away at Madison Square Garden.

I guarantee you my mother doesn’t know a thing about it. And if she did, she already voted anyway. I feel there are a lot like her.

I’m finding that the MSG transcript is in separate pieces for each speaker.

Dr. Phil apparently thinks Trump cannot be a bully when out of office because he lacks power:

singjupost

This sounds a lot like the far-left idea that you can only punch up, the change being that Trump is currently down.

As soon as he is sworn in, I can call him a bully then. Because he has promised that and more. Right?

And a lot who haven’t voted yet, who weren’t yet sure if they were going to vote or not.

Not a fan of Nate Silver as a pundit but his free version newsletter makes a good point today:

The ugliness of this rally is going viral. It is dominating search traffic and will be a focus of this week’s news cycle. Having the what even many of his leaners dislike about him be the focus of the news cycle in the final week, and not the messages on blaming Harris for immigration problems, housing, and inflation, is a hugely good thing. It helps drive up D leaning turnout and down Rs who are unenthusiastic.

Your mom will hear about it over the next several days. Even if she only watches Fox.

@PhillyGuy , so Dr Phil is saying Trump is weak? Wow.

Hopefully so will the massive amounts of new endorsements this caused. Specially Bad Bunny (who i guess is the biggest artist in the world currently somehow?) and J-Lo.

I checked it out on my YouTube feed and there was Rudy Guiliani up there praising Trump at MSG. And I thought OMG, he is as hardcore as Goebbels! Willing to take everyone down with him for the sake of his beloved master.

The slogan on the podium is raising eyebrows among British viewers of a certain age…

Dr. Phil thinking that Trump is the best debater around is pretty funny considering how he got smoked by Harris and was too cowardly to have another one.

I don’t think I realized just how far the rabbit hole Dr. Phil had gone.

Stephen Miller is definitely a neo-Nazi. He even has the same incorrigibly evil look one associates with Hitler’s henchmen. But while his statement clearly lays the groundwork for xenophobia and the oppression of minorities, it doesn’t even make any logical sense. Hitler was talking about a distinct ethnicity. WTF is Miller talking about?

yep … Drump will fix it …

(clogged toilet in spoiler)

I hate to say this, but I disagree. I think this was possibly the thing that will bring him the votes that will get him the presidency. They are full on fascist Nazis now. And this is what a large enough number of American voters will go for.
Hell, he’ll even get significant numbers of Muslim voters in swing states, who will likely be quite surprised when they get loaded into boxcars in the near future.

TLDR: People are dumb, easily fooled animals who often like a strong man dictator who will promise them that he’ll hurt the “others” (with the definition of “other” being quite flexible)

Shrodinger’s ethnicity. Whichever one any particular voter hates. If you’re Muslim American, it means America is not for Jews. If you’re a redneck from the backwoods, America is not for anyone who is not white. If you’re hispanic American, America is not for recent immigrants.

It lets the individual voter fill in the blank for whichever “other” they hate.

WTF is Miller talking about?

Americans are comprised of many different ethnicities. I think the Germans were, too. In both cases, Miller is probably referring to white skin and no accented English. Hitler wanted blue eyed blondes (“Aryans”). It is very specific, and few people will fit this criteria, which is the point. Those who are in the out group (which will be the majority) can then be scapegoated, enslaved, brutalized, minimized, etc. Then they need not be part of society, they need not be given social programs to help them achieve, they can be unpaid labor, imprisoned for trivial reasons, etc…they can be done away with if they become inconvenient, without any consequences. What every super rich person really wants. Well, not every but many of them would be OK with it, bc people are greedy and want all the chips in their pile. A story old as time, and sad to say, still with us. PS: I am sure you know all this, but just putting my ideas down. It helps remind me to be vigilant, myself, and not be naive or too optimistic.

He already had those votes.

This concerns the speaker who said Harris is the devil while holding a cross:

David Rem boarded a train in Los Angeles destined for Chicago. He departed the train during a stop outside Chicago, but left his suitcase containing 18 kilograms of cocaine on the train.
