Truth or Dare?

Only two main rules:

First and most important:

  1. No dares or truths that have anything to do with anything illegal OR against the rules of the Straightdope Message Board. This means no truths asking about past or present crimes or if anyone’s done anything that is illegal or about anything that is deemed illegal, and nothing about ANYTHING that you’re not allowed to do, post about, talk about, or reveal on the SDMB anyway. This includes sarcastic, “baiting”, or offensive questions to anyone. If you are posting one of these questions then you obviously know the person being asked is sensitive to it in the first place and are thus breaking the main rule of SDMB. But in general, try to use good and common sense when asking something.
    And 2. All dares must be limited to and posted in this thread only. No dares about making topics or posts in any forum or to any topic. No dares about going anywhere else on the net. No dares about doing anything to anyone else on here. There are many ideas for online dares I know of that would be fine. Unlimited possiblities actually, so there should be no reason for this game to have to go outside of this topic at all.

And finally, not rules per se, but some notes:

Anyone can ask anyone T or D at any time.

No impossible dares please (IE: I dare you to make a post in here of 1,000 words on the breeding of the potato plant; I dare you to post typing backwards for your next 500 posts in here; etc). Make them realistic.

Nobody has to do any dare or answer anything they don’t wish to for any reason, or no reason. HOWEVER, please don’t play the game if you’re not at least going to be a bit brave or daring.

No X or R rated dares, obviously, but I think that goes under Things Against SDMB rules. Keep the questions R rated (and possibly under a spoiler) and the dares PG rated.

Dares can be subject to many things. Photo dares, Soundbite dares, post dares (I.E I dare you to post using leet speak for the next 5 posts in this thread; I dare you to write a poem dedicated to toilet plungers;I dare you to post in muli colors for the next 10 post; etc), Sig dares, etc. Use your creative minds. Again, just as long as it’s not illegal or against SDMB rules/policy.

And of course, I hope this thread is closely monitored and isn’t hesitated in being closed down if someone does break the two rules…(or, hey, close it down immediatly if it’s found to not be a good idea for a game in the first place…however I think that it can be and see nothing wrong with it if the two rules I made are followed so I ask and implore you to at least give it a chance first).

That’s a heavy one.
Needles, mostly. Drowning comes to mind.

Afraid that life is passing me by while I while away the hours in an office with no windows. and that I’m going to wake up one day and be…old, really. It’s going to happen. I just have to get ok with it. I think I was really just 18 the other day, and then all of a sudden, I’m 33. Creeps. Me. Out.

Shouts Boooo! I think it would be very funny to make people change they way they post, within reason. For example, if I, or someone else, refuses to answer the question, I think it would be great fun to “make” them post the next five posts in other threads in certain restricted way. For example, your own “I dare you to post using leet speak for the next 5 posts in this thread; I dare you to post in muli colors for the next 10 post”, or something like pig-latin, or taking the other side of an argument then you normally do.

Just a [suB]very insistent[/suB] suggestion.

Kythereia, for the next 5 posts you make in this thread, you can’t use the letter ‘e’. However, you cannot just leave “e” out of words. Your sentences must still make sense. You must just use other words that somehow avoid this letter.

Scott Plaid, I like the suggestion. I just think it’s really really iffy. I mean, I wouldn’t want this game to be the cause of any other topic being hijacked or bothered by it. I suppose if it’s really in reason and doesn’t really attract any attention, then it’s okay…but pig latin? Or ‘leet’ speak? In other topics? Ehh, I don’t like the idea of it. I just don’t want to take any chances. I can’t picture daring someone to “post your next five posts on this forum backwards” and then having them reply to a Great Debate topic that way. Or even any forum’s topic. I just think it could be annoying to other posters.

However, if we can reach some sort of midway thing where it’s not really a bother much, I might think it’s okay.

Well, if I or someone else fails to anwer a question, then I guess I’ll rely on their judgement. People can be quite creative.

Plenty of weird-sad things.

Weird-funny, not so much. But… I once had a “Masked Avenger” client. This is a guy that would literally dress up in a unitard, cape, boots, and colored shorts, and go out to fight crime. Unfortunately, his version of “fighting crime” was to pick some unfortunate woman at random and follow her around promisng to protect her, and sometimes threatening to assault any male she started talking to. Sometimes this would lead to shoving matches, and, predictably, “Masked Avenger” did not possess superhero fighting skills. He had been arrested a couple of times when I drew him for a case of disorderly conduct, and he already had a capias for failing to appear on an earlier charge… AND he wanted to wear the costume to court. Since he had been inprocessed by the county jail, he had to wear the orange jumpsuit they give to inmates for arraignment, and he was more upset about that, I think, than any other aspect of his case.

He refused psych treatment and I ended up getting him time served on both the disorderly and the capias, and the judge told him he had to stop with the costume stuff. I found he had a social services caseworker who had some information about his family, and was able to get in touch with them, and from what I heard subsequent to that event, the family was able to intervene and convince him to accept some sort of treatment. In any event, so far as I know, I was the last guy to represent him; he fell off the radar screen after that.

I don’t remember his exact name for himself, but I have the distinction of cutting a plea bargain for The Masked Avenger, or whatever his name was.

Well, when I was just a little kid, I remember it being about a week. Saturday night was bath night. If that counts. :wink:

Ever since I’ve been able to clean myself, I haven’t missed a day, so I’d have to guess 24 hours as being the longest. I freak out and feel dirty if I haven’t had one in 12 hours or so. I’m kind of an OCD clean freak. I usually shower at least twice per day, and sometimes throw a bath in there, too.

I know. I’m a freak.
