Trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up!

Oh, I hope I have posted this is the right place.
It’s my fist day today, and I’ve already broke 2 rules.
Maybe I should change my name to "Duh! "

Ok, here’s the deal.
I have been a stay at home mother for 12 years, I have 3 kids - the youngest of whom is going to start school next week, and so now all 3 will be gone allll day…

Seven and a half lonely, quiet hours all to my LUCKY self!!!

Time for me to decide what to do with my life.
I’m seriously considering going to college ( comm. college? ) but I do not know what for LOL
I have been a full time mom for all these years, focused all my attention there, and now when it comes time for ME, I’m stumped. I have got alot of thinking to do.

Please do consider this, even if you don’t know what you want to study. Take a variety of subjects: maybe one each in science, foreign language, social science, and literature. You never know what you’ll fall in love with. Is there a topic you’ve always wanted to learn more about? This is the perfect opportunity. I’m sure your local c.c. has classes that you’ll enjoy.

As for why you’d be going, consider it personal enrichment. I can’t think of a better reason.

BTW, yep, this is the right place for this thread.

Congrats, Stormi! You just found the secret (sshh!): nobody is ever “grown up”. Folks with impressive careers chafe against the boundaries and dream of possiblilities.

Go to school. Meet people and listen to them. Keep your internal radar open. True fact: if you’re heart isn’t in it, you won’t succeed. And don’t for a skinny minute let anyone tell you what your heart leads you to won’t work. Art? Teaching? Computers? Business? Farming? Crafts?

Anything will work if you dream high, figure carefully and are willing to work like hell. (If your heart is in it, it’s not work; it’s life.)

But you have your feet set on the right path. You’ll never find what you never looked for.

This sounds so soppy, but it’s true. What do you love? What do you enjoy? What are you good at, and makes you feel good?

That’s what will work for you.

All the best, and a sweeping tip of the hat!

The best part about going to a community college is you can take an almost infinite variety of classes for very little money. So take a few of everything…find out what you like. Want to be a body-and-fender expert? No problem. Teacher? Yep, they got that covered, too. Medical doctor? Well, at least they can get you on your way…

If your CC is anything like mine, they won’t let you in without testing you for interests and giving you some career counselling. They might think of something that you never thought about.

I tried skewing my test for the career path I had already chosen. Instead, the advisor asked, “Are you sure you don’t want to become a professional student?”

I said that I did but it didn’t pay enough. But Geminis are professional students whether they like it or not.

I can only echo the delightful encouragement given by the other posters. Hug your kids, pack them off to school and go take classes in something wonderful. In everything wonderful you can get into. Psycology and literature are my ‘fun’ fallbacks, but please find your own. Also check out any local art or music Institute. You can take classes in some really cool crafty things using someone else’s expensive equipment. Local theatre is another open field for time. Volunteer work is also a possibility if you are so inclined. Whatever you do keep your eyes open for opportunity.

Wow, this could be such a wonderful time for you! Good Luck! Have fun! Be happy! hugs!

Thank you all for your advice and support…
you are great!!! I will let you know what I end up doing!
I will definitly be going back to school !

You have found your calling.
Cecil beckoned and you have responded.
Welcome, my child.
Hell, if you put your mind to it, you could have your post count up around 1000 by the end of the week.
