Driving me crazy, it is! My google skills have really failed me today because I can remember all the chorus and bits of the lyrics. Chorus goes
“Diane, if you’re going to do him wrong again/ might as well do the wrong again with me/ haven’t told a soul, nobody knows about you and me”
Any thoughts? It’s a melancholy, country song about a man who can’t forget the one night stand he has had with Diane when they were both drunk.
Very grateful to anyone can help - Ray Moore used to play it on BBC Radio 2 in the mid '80s so it’s at least that old.
Fleetwood Mac, Material Issue, and Trip Shakespeare have all recorded songs titled “Diane” (and now, thanks to you, all three of them are fighting it out in my head), but it doesn’t sound like any of these is what you’re thinking of.
So did Three Pound Thrill, but that was in the mid-90s and didn’t have similar lyrics.
Apparently, it’s by Ed Bruce of “Mammas Don’t Let Your babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys” fame.
I prefer Husker Du’s song of the same title.
Oh, check the second paragraph of the first review - that’s how I found it; it contains a bit of the lyric you quoted.
Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
