Can you give me any examples? My reading of the SDMB is highly erratic, and today was the first time I noticed the new and improved Liberal. If he’s been back-sliding, I still say he’s trying pretty hard, but perhaps not as successful as I had (to my shock!) found today.
Cool! Devilpesterer!
I agree.
I agree with MrDibble’s characterization that you quoted, that’s all. Regardless of what Lib did way back when and if/how he’s different and or completely new and improved, he totally shit in that thread, whined about being called on it, tattled, emailed when his tattling wasn’t resolved to his personal expectation then opened a huge pit thread when his emailing didn’t get him the response he desired.
What you perceive as whirling about from his incessant cheek-turning I view as petty and manipulative passive-aggressiveness. I understand why you might be thrilled that his total measure of obnoxious suckitude may have lessened dramatically, I’ll take your word for it, but don’t feel the need to cheer for someone who still, y’know, sucks.
Translation: I decided long ago to hate him and, by damn, I will not change.
Whatever.
But, as you pointed out in the closed thread, one doesn’t get to use context as an excuse when offensive terms are thrown around.
Now I’m confused about Inuit and Eskimos. I guess I’ll call Canadians Inuit and Americans Eskimo - that seems to be the division.
Boil-brained rudesbys.
You’re correct, of course. I was in a hurry to get somewhere, and neglected to mention that those persons who find it offensive are Canadian Inuit. I should have said ‘across the Canadian Arctic’, not merely ‘across the Arctic’. My apologies.
See, now that’s rather amusing to me since I truly haven’t been involved in or even followed any of (what I surmise are) Lib’s previous shenanigans. I’d seen his name in enough titles in the Pit to figure he regularly riled some folks up, but really couldn’t tell you what any of it was about.
Thru the closed thread and now this one I’d guess that he participates mightily in a lot of religious debates, which I don’t, and political debates, which I don’t, and apparently is much more heavily involved in this board than I am, but other than noticing whether we like or dislike the same contestants in the American Idol threads, I had no previous impression. My opinion is based solely on what happened in MrDibble’s thread and then this one, sorry.
I recall reading in a biography of John Rae that 18th-century European explorers could never figure out why Arctic natives didn’t suffer from scurvy. Rae avoided the condition by sensibly adopting the native diet, which contained large quantities of raw meat. Other Europeans, by cooking their meat in a ‘civilized’ fashion, destroyed the Vitamin C content that shielded natives from the disease.
If ‘Eskimo’ really does mean ‘eater of raw meat,’ then it’s sort of funny that the Canadian Inuit consider it pejorative, since eating raw meat was actually very sensible. I’d think that the term should be used with pride as a vindication of Arctic peoples’ extremely well-adapted culture.
“Hey, man, I hear your ancestors ate raw meat.”
“Screw you! They were just as dumb as Europeans!”
Ancestors, hell. They still do, some of them. Frozen, raw meat (called kwak, phonetically) is still pretty common in the Western Arctic.
…which is why I said I was wrong to use it there, and apologised for it. I guess Lib is just stingy in accepting apologies that aren’t in some “spirit” he approves of - I would guess a grovelling, bootlicking one. I was sorry I insulted him, but I wasn’t sorry that I called him on his threadshitting.
I see this thread as Lib not having the balls to pit me himself, and little quips like this:
confirm it. Note that it’s not my name in the thread title, but the OP is all about me. Yet I didn’t get a mail or PM to enable me to sespond until he’d already done his grandstanding.
Why he didn’t just take it to the Pit like I told him to in my very first reply to him is anybody’s guess. But if the words Queen, Reigning & Drama feature in your guess, I’d say you were on the right track.
I just wanted to chime in and ask Loach how he feels about “fuzz, Barney, Smokey, or po-po”
You missed the whole “bottom-feeding cunt” incident, did you? Lib is perfectly capable of dishing it out when he wants to, but gets all p/a when it suits him.
When, in this thread, has he turned the other cheek? He has not once said he was wrong to shit in my thread, for instance.
I think the message I intend is "You **are still acting like an asshole. I thought you were supposed to change, but I don’t see it." Note that I didn’t invite him into the thread personally, nor was the thread about insults in general or about previous “bad” moderation. I had a very specific complaint, about a racial slur, and I wanted something done about it, without a Pitting of VH. Lib came in on the attack, with a hostile tone right from the start. He knows I’m an atheist, and he was trying to push my buttons. I responded. I shouldn’t have done it the way I did, but there it is
Sidenote to one of Lib’s complaints: I thought ATMB was the best place to address the issue, as it had to do with Board rules, and wasn’t a pitting of VH per se. Next time, I’ll do it by PM (I’m still not used to the PM system, but I’m rapidly getting used to it with all the supportive ones I’ve been getting, believe me.)
Well, that’s the longest damn thread in ATMB in a long fucking time. I learned a few things, and thank you for that McDi, MrDri,… MrDibble.
And no, Lib hasn’t mellowed out, it’s the normal Lib time frame.
Is that duck meat?
Btw, since ISTR that “Inuit” means “people” and therefore rather arrogantly dehumanises the rest of the hind-leg-walking anthropoids on the planet, I’ll run with “Eskimo” for now.
Well, I would hope you would be on the sled with the dogs, you don’t have to run. :dubious:
I mean on the sled pulled by the dogs, didn’t mean to imply you were running with Eskimos pulling white guys and dogs.
Khoi means people too. Well, it means “man [with Cattle]”. KhoiKhoi is an emphatic duplicative or whatever they’re called, it makes the word plural, so “Men[with cattle]”, but mentally I always use the alternative translation “men of men” - it’s a brag.
But, really, I gather lots of people call themselves “the people”. I just think it’s nice to use the names people choose for themselves when you can.
What is an emphatic duplicative?
I had never heard it outside Lib’s posts. Until this thread I thought it was something he made up because he was pissed there were no pejorative terms for “atheist”.
That is Lib’s MO.
