It is really difficult for one culture to grasp how insulting something from another culture can be. We just sort of have to take their word for it. When MrDibble says that a word meaning “stupid” is a reference to his tribe, I must assume that this is something about African culture that I don’t know about. I think I did learn something in school about it long ago. He is doing what he is supposed to do by telling us about it. He is fighting our ignorance. He has also asked a favor that as to do with his feelings of dignity. That’s not so hard to understand.
Since his post was about the policies of the Straight Dope, I also might have posted it in ATMB. It’s easy to see why that might happen. Certainly his issue was more important than whether or not he got it in the correct forum. A simple “report this post” could have changed it to the right place.
Both of you have apologized and both of you have maintained your integrity.
