But she may not have wanted an in-person party during a pandemic, especially in Georgia which does not have the virus under control at all.
I’m not trying to be a wet blanket - she deserves to be honored - but surely any kind of in-person “celebration of life” should be put off for now?
Wow. I’m flabbergasted. This is an incredible loss to all who knew her, and to our community that she put so much of herself into. I doubt we would be here now without her having given so much.
My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends, and to all of us here as well. She will be missed.
Stay classy, Thelma.
Jenny was not close with her family. Maybe this is TMI, but I believe they held her back in many ways. I would like to respectfully suggest that any fundraising in her memory be more creative than sending money to her family. There is no memorial service to pay for. The Straight Dope was not her only community. Jenny was a tuba player, obviously, and so a scholarship for a young tuba player comes to mind. She was a timer for sports car racing in Atlanta. Apparently she was known and loved in the juggling community. She also very much loved her cats. And yes, she would want a party! We don’t have to hold an in-person party right away, but there is no harm in planning one for next year, I wouldn’t think… Very sad that she is not here to see how much she meant to y’all.
Hi Ranger!
I agree, Billy_Rubin.
Wow, this is incredibly sad news. I only knew her from the board and can only remember thoughtfull, warm and intelligent posts from her.
I’ll surely chip in if it can help this community
I would have replied earlier but was on vacation. The death of any SDMB member is bad not only was she well known, she was the core member. At least it happened after that (mostly successful) transition .
I echo calls to keep the board going in her honor.

Good night, sweet princess, And flights of angels Tuba thee to thy rest!
A tuba costs about $2,600 (and up). I bet the local school district would like to get one engraved with her name.
Let me know if we are passing the hat.
Not sure what that’s about but please remain so yourself
I think her point was that some people cant afford to become members and that a call for universal membership will end up shaming those folks.
Perhaps the classy thing would be to avoid sniping at others in a memorial thread?
¡Que descansa en paz! Things will not be the same here without you, and you will be missed forever. Thank you for everything you’ve put into this forum forever.
Let just keep any sniping out of this thread.
This was shattering.
Jenny did so much for us. It took me some time to get used to the Discourse software but I had decided I was going to make an effort to get used to it and learn it before commenting.
A few days ago I went to the ATMB forum to thank Jenny and make a suggestion or two - but mostly to send her a “Thanks for all your hard work, don’t let the complainers get you down” note. Then I saw this news. I really really really wish I’d posted a few days sooner.
Hey there JillGat!
Dear Discourse algorithm: I know you’re just an Artificial Unintelligance, but linking TubaDuva’s memorial thread to the “Celebrity Death Pool 2020” thread is completely tasteless. Is there any way that link can be removed?
This is devastating. TubaDiva was one of the many reasons I joined the SDMB back in 2003. She will be so very missed.
