How sad. So very sorry to hear this.
…my condolences
In my mind, our board migration has been the TubaDiva Migration.
Sad news Condolences to her friends and loved ones.
Tamerlane, you expressed it perfectly. This is shocking, and deeply sad. We’ve had losses before that were sad, sudden and tragic, and not to lessen the impact of any of them, this feels like another level again. TubaDiva, to me, was the best of the Dope in human form, and a repository of our history that transcended even the billions of words we’ve written here over the years.
My sincere condolences to all her loved ones, and to all of you here. This changes us.
WHAT?
Nonononono.
Not TubaDiva! She was the best!
Two thousand twenty, I hoped you would go no lower.
I’m shocked, saddened, speechless.
Though I’ve never met her, I’ve known her through this Board for more than 20 years now, and always deeply respected her boundless commitment, everpresent enthusiasm, and wise guidance.
Godspeed, our humble TubaDiva.
We’ve named events in our history before–the Winter of our Missed Content being a great example. There’s a thread currently active somewhere that asks, “What do we call the migration from vBulletin to Discourse?”
I like your idea, needscoffee. I second calling the migration the “TubaDiva Migration.” She did so much to facilitate it, and to reassure all of us before, during, and after it. What does anybody else think?
Oh no, how terrible. My condolences to her family.
I don’t know what to say. There are very few genuinely nice people in this world. People who always put others before themselves without hesitation. Jenny was like that. I’m crying right now and I’m not used to that.
Losses in the online world can present unique struggles. No one in my life will be able to fully understand the sadness I currently feel for someone I’ve never met, and interacted with a mere handful of times per year. Yet she was a big part of my life for 20 years through this place. I’m just stunned and saddened, and I wish her family and her friends and her Dopers comfort even as we mourn her death. She was an amazing person and the heart of this community.
I won’t even try to explain it to anyone IRL.
Me neither.
All I can say is “I’m stunned!”
And Spoons and NeedsCoffee, I’ll third that motion.
She was working hard at making this migration smooth and satisfying for everyone.
Any more in favor of TubaDiva’s Migration?
–G!
I hope somebody here knows some of Jenny’s family and can pass along a copy of this thread to them so they can see how many lives she touched.
I could not agree more.
Excellent idea.
What horrible, shocking news. I don’t know what to say, except to send my deepest condolences to her family and friends.
2020 sucks.
I didn’t know Tuba as well as many of you, but I also found myself quite shocked and saddened to see this news. Farewell, TubaDiva, you really hit on a home run on your final act as the SDMB Admin!
When I very first joined the board almost 20 years ago I used to message her on AOL instant messenger. She was always polite and kind, Rest In Peace Jenny, you can finally rest now.
