She wasn’t subjected to vitriol and hatred because you screwed up. She was subjected to vitriol and hatred for how she handled it, and because it’s so typical of her. It’s the latest episode in a long pattern of douchebaggery that is simply not acceptable in a customer service job–which is a large part of her responsibility to the SDMB. I don’t know what she does for the Reader, and, for all I know, she’s the world’s foremost expert at it. But she is only doing the Board and the mods in general a disservice by treating us and you guys the way she does.
That’s what I don’t get: she’s so commendable in how she communicates with members privately (myself included–I have no complaints on that front), but such a douchebag in public. What gives?

I have to say, I have interacted with Tuba before. Not in real life, but through IM. This was many years ago. I found her to be gracious, likable and reasonable in person one on one. I like Tuba, she’s a good egg, and a very attractive woman in person. I’ve seen her picture.
But she is totally over her head administrating a message board like the SDMB as it is now. I like her. Netwise, I love her for what she helped create, the SDMB where I met my wife. Still, she has ABSOLUTELY NO CONCEPT how to treat paying members. She unthinkingly supports mods and administrators regardless of the circumstance. She makes lame excuses when a simple admission of truth would serve better. In short, no matter how much I might like Tuba the person, Tuba the administrator is in way, way over her head, And always has been. And that’s sad because back in the day she was instrumental in creating the SDMB as it is today. She needs to rest on her accolades and let someone who knows what s/he is doing take over.

I don’t usually make “me too” posts…I try to avoid them, but in this case “me too”.
I’ve emailed Tuba a lot of times over the last five and a half years and PMed her about as many as well and she’s always been:
- Prompt in answering.
- Kind and considerate.
- Interestingly more personal than she comes across in her public posts (which I think is a good thing).
I don’t think she’s all high and mighty or looks around where she can be mean or out of line. I think she’s just human, like the rest of us, and has good days and bad days (and if she’s anything like how I feel, the bad days outnumber the good, heh). I think if any of us were in her shoes we might, after awhile, be snippy sometimes, too.

I think I’ve seen Cecil Adams be a bit more snarky in his answers than she was in that post.
Rico didn’t seem to mind it either.
If I made a mistake in public, I’d think it was fair to be called out about it in public.
It wasn’t that big of a thing. I agree with the person who says this is all an overreaction.
I think a lot of people (not everyone, but some) tend to look at certain mods and admins with a magnifying glass and wait for them to screw up so they can pounce all over them.
This is not ass-kissing. I’m already full of ass-kissing today and have a long list of ass kissing to do tomorrow, so there is no room to kiss anyone’s ass even if I wanted to.

I simply tried, in some small way, to defend a person who has been helpful and kind to me on several occasions and I’ll stand by what I said. I think that if I reviewed every person I’ve ever known, I would find that all of them have been, on occasion, mistaken in some way, not to mention rude, thoughtless, etc., etc. I think those incidents are part of being human, even when those humans are among the powers that be. People should be allowed to be human. If you believe in praise being given publicly and censure being given privately, why are you hanging your censure out here for all the see? E-mail still works, so far as I know.

It’s a thankless job for good reason. It’s the same reason being a HOA President is a thankless job, it’s because it’s something that any idiot could do but anyone with a life would almost definitely have no interest in doing. So it leaves only the people who have such pathetic lives that they get off on executing petty power in a petty place as the prime candidates.
Obviously there are some exceptions, Tuba isn’t one of those.

The question had only been partially answered which is why What Exit kept asking for more clarification. He specifically asked WHY it was illegal, I provided that information. Question asked, question answered. If the mod didn’t like it, the mod could warn me. Either way, fine by me. Playing with and stirring shit might be an exciting way to pass an afternoon for you, but it doesn’t really trip my trigger. Answering the question which was asked and not yet clarified was what I did.
