Tubal Ligation experiences, please

I had staples with my two CSections. They were actual metal things. I remember telling my husband that it felt like they ran a stapler over my belly when they closed me up and he told me they did! They came out quite easily – I was totally freaked about the whole process and was pleasantly surprised when I didn’t even feel them come out.

Well, I lived. I feel like warmed-over butt, but I’ll be fine. All I’ve had for the pain is Tylenol (they wrote me a prescription for something stronger, but since I’m nursing, I declined to fill it), and a heating pad.

TMI: MissGypsy: I am 10 weeks post-partum. If you have a tubal soon, be prepared for your uterus to turn itself inside-out and shed every bit of everything that it’s still got in there. Seriously. Nobody warned me that this might happen, and I was worried. The recovery room nurse said ‘It’s not uncommon’ - so why the hell wasn’t I informed?

So, yeah. I have two new scars, and some snazzy new compression socks on. I am teh sexay.

Happy to hear you’re doing well, Ginger. I’m 8 weeks post-partum now, so probably 12 weeks or so when I get fixed. And yipes, thanks for scaring the socks off me!

May I ask, why compression socks? And why two scars? I thought they sort of went in through the belly button, leaving only one practically invisible scar.

Compression stockings with massaging thingies over your calves to prevent blood clots. Uh, okay, minor surgery, out for an hour or so… whatever.

Two scars: One in the navel, and one lower. I can’t tell right now, but I think it’s just below the pubic hairline.

And don’t fret, it’s just like a heavy period. I just want you to be prepared for it if it happens.

Ah, got it. That doesn’t sound as scary now. Thanks for the reassurance, and hope you’re feeling ok.

Why’d you get snipped rather than him?

What me? Nobody’s getting near my boys with a knife, no sir! I’m not going to have them make me less of a man, not in a million years! :o :o :o

Actually, I would have been happy to have been snipped, it’s much less intrusive for me than for her, but the insurance she’s on will pay for the tubal ligation, while my insurance will not cover a vasectomy. shrug

I had mine done a year ago, and I only have the one tiny scar in my belly button. It’s almost faded, and you probably wouldn’t even know I’d had surgery if you saw it.

I’ve had both the Essure procedure (18 months ago) and the tubal. Five months after the Essure, the HSG showed my left tube had not scarred, and the location of the insert meant it couldn’t be removed and re-tried. So I had the tubal. Recovery from the tubal was actually easier than the Essure.

I’m looking at possibly having my left tube completely removed, however. I’ve had pain for the last year since soon after the tubal, and my new gynecologist thinks it’s caused by fluid buildup between the tubal clamp and the micro-insert.

I chose to have it done. If I had asked him, he would have done it in an instant.
