Tubal reversal stats

For various reasons, I’ve been interested in the ‘type’ of woman who undergoes a tubal reversal.

Some websites say that it is mainly childless women who request the reversal (usually pro-natal sites), while other websites (usually childfree websites) maintain that the vast majority of reversals are requested by mothers who change their minds.

I pretty much want to find out the truth.

I’ve been googling my heart out, and haven’t found any studies or statistics either way.

So, I throw it out to the Dopers. What is the main ‘type’ of woman who requests a tubal reversal ? Is it mothers, or the childless who more often change their minds ?

(and if you find the answer by googling, please let me know what search terms you used… I’m always looking to improve my google skills  )

Just off the top of my head, it’s neither–it’s women in second marriages who had the tubal ligation after having kids with Hubby #1 and who now want a baby with Hubby #2.

No cite, sorry.

Hi, everyone -

We perform approximately 800 reversals a year and I speak with thousands of women who call inquiring about the subject. The reasons are varied: 1) post-tubal syndrome, 2) religious reasons. But by far the most common is, 3) remarriage to someone who has no children or the couple want to start a family together! The vast majority of the women have had children previously, however. In eight years, we have only seen six women who had their tubes tied prior to having any children.
