Tucker Carlson Leaves Fox News

I misread this as: « This just shows that the only people who are truly irreplaceable at Fox are Morlochs. »

Works either way.

Nah, the Morlochs had better taste.

My fear is that many, many others may twist at the end of a rope before this madness is over.

TIL that Tucker’s top producer also was “let go amicably” at the same time. Interesting article in Variety about it here.

Any chance this was part of a “backroom, handshake clause” in the Dominion settlement? “That’ll be $1.2 Billion… Unless you agree to cut Tucker loose, in which case we’ll settle on $787 Million”.

Tangent, I know. But I have a very close friend who started a business in his garage 25 years ago, and when he sold it last year he made tens of millions. He, his wife, and his brothers were all the executives at the company. When they got older, his three kids were the Director level. Then their wives were brought into the company, once they got married.

He and I are close. He tried for years to get me to join. No thanks for this very reason.

IMHO, I don’t think that’s likely. Tucker was the loudest and arguably the most unhinged and obnoxious of the Fox loudmouths, but in terms of Dominion defamation, he was not the worst offender. In the 20 specific instances cited by Dominion, Tucker appears only once. Maria Bartiromo is cited three times, Hannity once, Jeanine Pirro twice, and good ol’ Lou Dobbs is all over the place, cited at least half a dozen times.

There was something else going on with Tucker, and I’m inclined to suspect that his stature with the network made him so full of himself that he felt indispensable and invulnerable and had no qualms about criticizing upper management. The Murdochs don’t take kindly to either of those traits. For the same reasons, he may also have been seen as a loose cannon who posed a threat of future legal actions against Fox.

Or a big enough sacrifice to avoid more firings. “Look what we’re willing to do!” Then they run away to another juicy trough of lies.

When Dobbs’ show on Fox was cancelled two years ago, the timing was…interesting.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/07/media/lou-dobbs-fox-reliable/index.html

Dobbs currently has a radio show that upholds “Truth, Justice and The American Way”.

Interesting indeed. I wasn’t aware or had forgotten about Dobbs being sacked, but indeed the defamation incidents cited were all from 2020 and Dobbs is no longer with Fox. It makes sense that he would be the first to go – he was unhinged even back when he was on CNN, and his antics at Fox had made him Dominion’s #1 target.

Hearing Lou Dobbs’ name reminds me of a Dope thread from circa 2009, in which @elucidator imagined the Aztec winged serpent god Quetzalcoatl swooping down and bloodily eliminating Dobbs, after he made an especially Latino-immigrant-hating comment.

/SDMB nostalgia hijack

Works better as “Tucker round, find out,” I think. Maybe gilding the lily.

Can anyone who maybe lives in midtown tell us whether the iconic picture has yet been replaced, and with what?

How long does it take after a Dobbs or O’Reilly or Beck or Kelly exits until they are removed from their sidewalk perch?

Probably repurpose a gynecologist’s examination table, complete with the stirrups.

Carlson has apparently lawyered up. Exactly why is still undetermined.

From the link

has reportedly retained a powerful and “aggressive” entertainment attorney,

Is Trump writing for Raw Story?

In a lawsuit with TC as the Plaintiff and Fox News as the Defendant … I’m utterly at a loss for who to side with.

Nope. They’re still whack jobs. Crazy is what sells. Carlson just cost them too much money.

The headlines should read “Serial liar sues lying propaganda network”. Obviously the correct position is to hope for mutual destruction. Realistically, that means Tucker gets hammered into the ground, but not before doing substantial damage to Fox. Here’s hoping! {Raises glass} :wine_glass:

Often in lawsuits like this, it is lamented that the lawyers are the only ones that win. In this one, I’m rooting for 'em.
