Tuckerfan, you dog hating bastard.

Oh man, absolutely. Between this and another Keanu Reeves flick, I’d take this any day.

How the hell could you see her snout through all that mess?

Five bucks says she doesn’t learn from the experience and ends up back at the vet with another faceful.

Tenacious dogs seem to be very slow learners. I mentioned elsewhere that my parents’ first dog picked a fight with a bull. Twice. Ever see a black lab/shepard fly? I have…

Funny, especially now that I know she’s okay.

False dichotomy. A & B are both correct. Except I’d rephrase B that it’s a commentary on violence in certain bad cartoons only (not WB and definitely not in t.v., nature or life in general). The excessiveness of the violence is funny, but only because it’s absurd/extreme parody of unfunny cartoons. Not because excessive violence is inherently funny. Just the opposite. Think of how bad and unfunny Tom and Jerry was. Bart and Lisa aren’t supposed to see the parody. You are. You’re supposed to be laughing for different reasons.

Here’s the director of the simpsons on the issue:

I don’t feel sorry for the porcupine, temporarily nekkid or not (well, if losing quills doesn’t hurt that is). At least genetics is working in it’s favor. Some breeds of dogs have been turned into a danger to themselves. Exhibit A-- Quill Face over there.

I always thought Itchy & Scratchy were supposed to be a commentary on violence in cartoons. More the boneheadedness of finding violence amusing, and how it’s a cheap trick to avoid actual intelligent, but difficult to consistently produce, humor.

That is a creepy fucking picture. Like Clive Barker decided Pinhead needed a pet.

Much more simply put, thanks. Which leads back to why the poor damn dog isn’t funny.

That, of course, is only part of it. It’s also intended to be a funny cartoon in and of itself…which is supposed to make you question why you find it funny…but yet it IS funny, etc.

That’s what makes it great humor. It’s all of those things. Just seeing one side of it is missing half the fun.

Well in a way it’s funny because it illustrates the stupidity of the dog. But it’s also sad because the poor dog must be in serious pain.

I still say that picture is too creepy to be funny. Maybe it’s that you can’t see any real defining features on its face. It looks…unreal. Alien.
But hey, Mel Brooks may have put it best: “Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die.”

oh uh… don’t mind me, i’m just here to take down names.

btw, nice job BD

Check out Mike and Spike’s animation dvd’s those that include Lloyd’s Lunchbox for just this sort of humour.

If this is the source of the story, the dogs owner states in his second post that the porcupine “didn’t walk away”.

So, you can go ahead and feel sorry for the porky.

There’s also a picture of the dog before the thriller with the quiller battle. You can clearly see the terrier snout in question.

Here’s a picture of a Bull Terrier and an American Pit Bull Terrier, for those of you that like visuals.

Bull Terrier
American Pit Bull Terrier

Another interesting difference between the two is that the American Pit Bull Terrier is not accepted as a breed by the American Kennel Club, although it is by the United Kennel Club. Go figure.

(aside: now all Inca the Fearless Porcupine Hunter needs is a super annoying Australian accent and an equally annoying catchphrase, and she could go on Animal Planet right after Steve Irwin, the Absolutely Insane Crocodile Hunter and The Other Guy With An Annoying Accent Who Takes On Crocodiles And Other Dangerous Animals Whose Name I Have Forgotten Because I Am Sick To Death Of The Australian Version Of “Hey Y’all, Watch This” TV.)

Makes you wonder what kind of monsters would breed an animal to the point that it would keep on attacking and attacking and attacking even when it was so horrifically injured, eh?

It’s amazing what a few dozen generations of brother-sister love can do for a dog breed; and it’s amazing how we humans can blame the dog for having a psychosis bred into it.

No need to “fuck the dog, man”; that was done a long time before she was born.

Daniel

:dubious: I’m glad you wrote this sentence. Now I know what your opinion is worth.

No Shit! I missed that comment the first time through the thread. Tom and Jerry were my absolute favorites growing up.

And Droopy? Holy shit that was some funny stuff.

TOM AND JERRY SUCKS

That’s not an opinion. It’s an observable fact.

What does Droopy have to do with anything?

The Hothouse Flowers have a new album out.

What? I thought we were doing non sequiturs now.

Over the Top violence : Sometimes funny. Depends on the person. Anyone who tries to replace that ‘sometimes’ with an absolute like ‘always’ or ‘never’ is a self-important jackass snob.

Itchy and Scratchy - funny, in my view.
