I drain my tuna in a sieve set over a bowl. This allows me to press more juice out of each can. When I have four cats, and each of them wants as much tuna juice as possible, I need to get as much juice from each can as possible.
I have a bit of phobia of pop-top tuna cans because I once was opening one (one of those really small cans) and managed to somehow slip and cut my finger as if it had been a scalpel. No exaggeration - my cupped hand filled with blood almost instantly. It’s been over ten years, and I still have the scar.
I was in the supermarket yesterday, so I looked at the tuna in envelopes/pouches vs the tuna in cans. The envelopes were about twice the per-ounce price. I supposed it’s worth it if weight’s an issue.
Next time you buy a can, determine how much all of the throw-away juice weights. That will affect the net per ounce price somewhat. For me, though, it’s the texture and quality of the tuna that makes the price difference worth it.
Which canned tuna are you comparing it to? Because I buy solid white albacore, and it’s good quality, at least compared to the chunk lite tuna I bought once (and regretted).
