Tuning a #%@$# Radio

We have a clock-radio hooked up under the kitchen cabinets. It is very convenient as it also has a light and an outlet with a built in timer. We use it all the time.

Except for the radio.

The radio is impossible to tune and it has no external antenna plug. What is most infuriating is that the reception is perfect when you touch it, like when trying to tune it in  . Move your hand away, it worsens. It gets even worse as you walk away from it. So sitting at the kitchen table it’s unlistenable. But you can’t tune it in any better! GRRRR.

Any suggestions? Can I make an antenna of some kind?

Sounds like your radio has chosen its antenna.

Seriously this always drives me batty too. I propose hiring a kid to stand there with his finger on the radio. Prop him up next to the counter, stick a gameboy in his other hand… he won’t move for hours, and you’ve got crystal clear reception.
