Why don’t people eat turkey eggs? Are they commercially available anywhere?
Why can’t you buy turkey eggs in stores? Ask Cecil.
The farm shop just up the road from me sells them.
They are hard to crack; the shells are much tougher than hens’ eggs and the membrane inside is very strong and leathery; it’s almost impossible to crack them open without breaking the yolk (which is a shame if you like your eggs sunny side up).
They taste pretty much the same as ordinary eggs; the only real difference I noticed is that the white is much purer white in colour.
There’s another farm (run by a friend of mine) nearby that farms ostriches; they sell the eggs and meat there, I’ve tried the meat (mmmm, nice), but I’m waiting for a special occasion to sample the eggs as they sell for £10 each.
